Some of Gov. Gray Davis' wealthy critics are believed to be interested in financing the recall effort against him.

Anti-tax activists and conservative Republicans put out the word last week: They want to ask voters to recall Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

Fools.. All of 'em! (Many of the quotees above, that is.)

They'd rather sleep with scoundrels, then claim their own destiny.

As great as it sounds, recalling Gov. Doofus would actually be a waste of time, since the California state legislature is run by the 'RATS; what the voters in this state, especially the Republicans, need to do is to change the make up of our lawmakers. In other words, send the likes of Alpert, S. Davis, and Burton packing when they come up for re-election. That's the only solution I can see to loosening the death-grip the looney Left has on this great state.

The idea of recalling Davis would make anyone with sense jump for joy when first hearing of it.

But IMHO it's a very dangerous, treacherous business.

"Those mentioned most prominently are Kathleen Connell, a Democrat and former state controller, and Richard Riordan, the former Los Angeles mayor and failed gubernatorial hopeful who ran as a Republican moderate and is seen as a bipartisan force."

I would add that now we seem to have the SacBee floating this scheme as well.

Be careful what you ask for. You could easily end up with someone like Riordan, who would be even WORSE than Davis and would kill any chance of a real Republican comeback. I'm in full agreement with the unnamed Republicans mentioned in the article who refuse to move until they know, WHO WILL TAKE DAVIS'S PLACE?

If a Republican governor (minus RINOs like Riordan) can do something, it would be to stop, or at least slow down the tax happy liberals in the Legistature. True, we can't get any tax cuts in this case, but if anything, it will send a signal to the liberals that conservates are NOT irrelevent (again, unless we get a RINO which, yes, would only mean the destruction of whats left of the Republican Party along with the state).

And if a liberal Democrat were to take over after the recall (I agree. The only problem with this recall is that this very scenario CAN happen), to a certain extent, this is okay too. While all the working people leave the state, and the state goes along the route towards bankruptcy, California could be THE state to show off the "greatness" of liberalism, and move the rest of the nation right. And in the end, MAYBE conservatives can take back the state. If not, well, the rest of the nation would certainly look better.

I respectfully disagree. Reagan turned this country around with a Democratically controlled Congress. If we can cut off the head of the snake the rest will follow. In the mean time the recall is scaring the hell out of Davis as we speak. The Dimwit has stated that he will veto any vehicle tax raise. So worse case scenario, we might be able to hold him down until he is replaced in the next election.
