In the case of a disaster, I would have troops monitoring the frequencies to see if any calls for help were recieved. with their easy affordability and range, they would be a great help in locating disaster victims, especially when the telephone and cellular circuits are down after an attack. They have a 27 hour life with AA batteries, so they could be a long term help.
