'Dude, you're getting a Dell guy' arrested last night on Marijuana charge

Benjamin Curtis, the 22-year old actor who portrays the Dell Guy in those bothersome computer commercials, was arrested late last night (2/9) on a marijuana possession charge, The Smoking Gun has learned. According to cops, Curtis was holding a "small bag of marijuana" when he was popped on Manhattan's Lower East Side (at Ludlow and Rivington for you Gothamites). Curtis is currently being held in Central Booking and is scheduled to be arraigned later today in Manhattan Criminal Court. Curtis, who lives in lower Manhattan, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. Bonnie Shumofsky, the actor's agent, said she was unaware of her client's bust when contacted this morning by TSG. (1 page)

I understand where you are coming from, but you also have to keep in mind we are talking about pot. Pot doesn't ruin marriages or cause financial ruin or kill people--unlike cocaine, or heroin, or alcohol. Potheads aren't like the people you see on "Reefer Madness", and pot isn't like alcohol at all--trust me. Being drunk and being stoned are two very, very different things. A stoned person can still function at a normal level, especially if they have been smoking for awhile. I wouldn't recommend operating heavy machinery while stoned, but I wouldn't recommend that after taking Nyquil, either. Stoned people don't slur their speech, have poor motor coordination, or impaired judgement like drunk people do.

Bottom line is, if cigarettes and alcohol are legal--both of which are more dangerous and MUCH MORE ADDICTIVE, then pot should be legal too. Pot does not produce a physical dependency. If a person stops smoking pot, they will be a little moody for a few days. The addiction with pot is a mental one. If an alcoholic stops drinking, they need treatment and in some cases hospitalization and drugs. Kicking cigarette smoking the same (with the exception of hospitalization). So it isn't really fair to demonize pot or lump it in with other legitimate drugs like coke, heroin, crack, or acid.

Let's not forget prescription drugs, which are legal and are far more dangerous and addictive than pot, and are just as easy to get on the street. People have held up drugstores with weapons in order to get Oxy's--have you ever heard of someone pulling a gun in order to get a joint? Has anyone ever OD'd on pot?

These are things we have to consider.
