77% of the French oppose war under any circumstance because 90% of the French know that anywhere from $6Billion to $8Billion in guaranteed oil/loan contracts go up in smoke with their beloved Saddam. Bush to the French: Abstain on February 14th or you will not only lose the big $$$, you will also be cut out of future oil contracts in Iraq.

But, Switzerlands cantons has direct democracy. For important decisions, they still assemble in the city hall and count the votes of all towns in the evening.

Just found the answer: apparently, Muslims make up 7% of France's population. That must mean the overwhelming majority of non-Muslims in France are actually ostriches.

I don't know about you, but I've always found it impossible to take the French seriously.

> Try to see it from their point of view. Iraq is not even remotely a threat to France, so why should they waste their resources against Iraq?

And indeed, one could argue the opposite, that since France is in competition with Germany to be the biggest supplier of embargoed goods, that they have a lot to lose if Saddam bites the dust.

Or it could be that they are after all, just "cheese-eating surrending monkeys" (a trademark of Jonah Goldberg of National Review). This phrase was recently translated by a French publication to:
Primates capitulards et toujours en quete de fromages
in case you need to insult someone in their native tongue.

The language sounds gay. To be honest, the people are friendly and Paris is a beautiful city.

Q: How do you say "I surrender!" in French?
A: You don't need to say anything in particular, you just speak French.

Q: What do you call 100,000 Frenchmen with their hands up?
A: The Army.

65% of the French long for the "good old days" under Nazi Germany. Things were so orderly.

I bet that if you took a poll in 1938, only 10% of Frenchmen were willing to go to war with Germany over Czechoslovakia. The majority were wrong then, and they are wrong now. The French practically invented appeasement.
