The Mussel Man Challenge - TODAY! (101 Mussels!!!!!!!!!)

Yep, it's TODAY! Later this afternoon, I will be making my promised trip down to the local Chinese restaurant, and will attempt to eat 100 or more mussels. Why? To raise money for Free Republic, of course!

You can still help, too. Here's how. So far, dozens of FReepers have pledged to donate a set amount to FR for every mussel I eat. Some have pledged .10 cents a mussel, some .25 cents, $1.00, and more. What can you pledge?

To date, I believe we have a total of $16.05/mussel. If I reach my goal today of 100 mussels, that means $1605.00 will have been raised for FR.

I will be carrying out my duties at 1PM, MST. FReepers in Colorado are welcome to join us at the Grand China Restaurant at 28 1/2 Road & North Avenue (behind AutoZone) in Grand Junction. When it is all said & done, I will post results, along with pics, on another thread.

If so he looked a little concerned about his Dad during the process and was very relieved that you finished the job and were still sitting and breathing.

Thanks Grampa Dave for your dedication to FR. And yes, that was my son. When I started out, he said he wanted to do something like I was doing. After it was over with, he said he couldn't believe I could eat all of that.

Well, I remember your reply to me suggesting this Mussel Pledge, and I figured what the heck, run it up the flag pole.

A little sidebar, last Saturday, I fixed mussels with some clams in them for our dinner. About halfway through, I told my wife about your pledge. Suddenly she got full and could only eat about half of her mussels/clams. So I was forced to eat her share and mine.

The next day she said, that her own mental picture of her trying to eat 101 mussels just did her in and mentally filled her stomach.

Your son obviously loves and cares for his Dad. Those were great pictures!

that got me thinking (ouch) -- yikes, you're right. (it's wafer thin!)

Both of our thirty something sons were still at home in high school.

The younger one suggested that we rent that video and run it on a Friday evening while he and his mom made pizza.

We watched the movie with the various funny situations. The one free mint came up as he and his older Bro were arguing over the last slice of two very large and thick pizzas.

My wife broke up everyone by stating, "Who ever got the last piece of pizza had to eat one thin mint afterwards!"

Everyone broke up laughing and the last slice went to the old dog. We shortened her life to 17+ years by letting her eat table scraps for 17 years.

It was one of those great family moments and "Just One Thin Mint" is now a verbal tradition where and when appropriate.

well, the weather is grim today, church is over.... i know we have "the meaning of life" on tape. good plan.

OK, here's a final tally. I believe I have included everyone's pledges, plus the extras.

TOTAL PLEDGES FROM ALL 4 THREADS:
$23.05/mussel x 101 mussels = $2,328.00

With the 'extras' ($25 for the 100th, etc), the total amount pledged/raised is:
