School guard moved amid drug inquiry
02/08/2003
An assistant freshman coach and security guard at Adamson High School has been reassigned, pending an investigation into allegations that he was selling drugs to students.
The security guard, Nickey Martin, was reassigned to a position in Nolan Estes Plaza, which houses several departments.
Mr. Martin will work in a position where he has no contact with students until the district concludes its investigation, said Donald Claxton, Dallas Independent School District spokesman.
Mr. Martin, who has been with the district five years, was unavailable for comment Friday. Aimee Bolender, president of the Alliance of Dallas Educators, said the organization's counsel is advising Mr. Martin not to make a statement until the investigation is concluded.
"At this point, there is nothing to represent him in as no charges have been filed against him," she said. "... [We've] advised him not to talk. Any time an investigation has been going on, we advise people to let that investigation move forward."
The investigation began after winter break when someone in Adamson High School's office reported seeing Mr. Martin passing a small bag to a student, Mr. Claxton said.
Human resources "has said they initially felt the charge of any drugs involved was unfounded, but more evidence came to light, so they're investigating to see if any drugs were involved," Mr. Claxton said.
The Oak Cliff school's principal, Francisco Ramirez, was unavailable for comment Friday.Carl Jackson, head football coach at Adamson, said Mr. Martin also won't be coaching until the investigation is finished.
Mr. Jackson said he has known Mr. Martin for about a year. Mr. Martin was on the staff when Mr. Jackson took the job as head coach.
"He did work at our school as an assistant," Mr. Jackson said. "There is an investigation. Until it is completed, we are kind of in limbo. I can't imagine him doing anything like this."

| This juggler had the funniest begging for money speech at the end of his act I've heard yet. My favorite line was
"Please! Give me money. I really don't want to have to go back to my old job of selling drugs to your children." |
