Police set up crime scene tape around the scene of the shooting.

EVERMAN - A man, his wife and teenage son were found shot early Friday in what police described as an apparent murder-suicide.

A 19-year-old University of Texas at Arlington student died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. His father died on the way to John Peter Smith Hospital, and his mother was critically injured.

All three were shot in the head with a .38-caliber handgun, officials said.

Police said that they are waiting on investigators to determine the chain of events but believe that one of the three people in the home fired the shots.

Everman police Sgt. Mike Treppa said police responded to a disconnected 911 call made at 8:11 a.m. from the residence in the 800 block of West Barron Avenue. The woman, who police believe made the call, was partially conscious when police arrived, he said.

Sgt. Treppa said another son, a 7-year-old boy, was at school at the time of the shootings. The child is expected to be released to a relative, he said.

With no witnesses, police said, they are left to try to determine what led to the shootings in the small town of about 5,000 people southeast of Fort Worth.

Mike Marshall, the family's next-door neighbor, said he heard three shots come from the house and a woman screaming about 8 a.m. but couldn't determine what had happened until police arrived soon after.

Neighbors said that police had been called to the residence before, but police said they couldn't confirm any previous disturbances there.

...looking at the map, it took me a while to find the red
"x" showing the location of the town of Everman. Growing up in Arlington, I don't think I ever heard of "Everman".
Though I used to ride a bicycle from Arlington to Cedar Hill, before riding bicycles was cool...and before the flood-plain Northwest of Cedar Hill was turned into a large,
man-made lake...

I haven't heard of Everman before either. Back in the 70s-80s I lived in Arlington for 5 years too. And I've lived in the D/FW metroplex since '72...

Thanks...

Only survivor of shooting now in serious condition

02/09/2003

By JAIME JORDAN / The Dallas Morning News

The only survivor of an apparent murder-suicide in Everman was upgraded to serious condition at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth on Saturday, a hospital official said.

The woman, whose name was not released, had been in critical condition after being shot in the head a day earlier at her home in the 800 block of West Barron Avenue, police said.

The man she was living with, Dinh Nguyen, 51, and the woman's son, Quang Doan, 18, each died after being shot in the head, a Tarrant County medical examiner's spokesman said. The woman's 7-year-old son, who had gone to school before the shooting, is staying with relatives, police said.

Police found Mr. Doan dead, Mr. Nguyen mortally wounded and the woman semiconscious after a 911 call from the home was disconnected shortly after 8 a.m. Friday. Mr. Nguyen died on the way to the hospital.

Everman police Detective Wes McCullough said a .38-caliber handgun was found near Mr. Nguyen's hand, but police did not say whether they thought he was the shooter.

Police said that, at relatives' request, they had not yet talked with the woman.

"She's still in shock and has not been able to communicate," Detective McCullough said.
