Coincidentally, yes. I remember that a small rainstorm or showers had gone thru the south bay early that morning. I live in North San Jose. About 10 miles north as a crow flies from the Lick Observatory where one of the video was taken. The "strike/encounter" with atmospherically active contact was probably just as shuttle came over the coast and over the land mass.

The word "Ignoro" translates to "I do not know."

Sounds like it was invented by Algore.
Does it have anything to do with ozone?

This is the first I've heard of a shooting trumpet, although terrorists may be getting more creative.

A "shooting trumpet", also known as a "strumpet"?

Naw, those terrorists are looking for their 72 virgins, not 72 strumpets.

It sure would change it as it would then of been an act of God that brought the shuttle down....

One thing to remember that as reported, the temperature increase was slow but steady over bried period of time.. to me , this implies that a "pinhole" penetration or more could have occurred in the wing structure itself, apparently, near the left wing wheel well . as heat built up, it ate away at the wing until structural failure occurred.. who knows? acts of god are hard reminders of how we are a slave to our environment and nothing in the winds of time.

From the link in # 20 above:

Cosmic bolt probed in shuttle disaster Scientists poring over 'infrasonic' sound waves Sabin Russell, Chronicle Staff Writer Friday, February 7, 2003

Federal scientists are looking for evidence that a bolt of electricity in the upper atmosphere might have doomed the space shuttle Columbia as it streaked over California, The Chronicle has learned. Investigators are combing records from a network of ultra-sensitive instruments that might have detected a faint thunderclap in the upper atmosphere at the same time a photograph taken by a San Francisco astronomer appears to show a purplish bolt of lightning striking the shuttle.

Thanks for the infoGentlemen. Spites/Jets as a possible cause was raised yesterday at FR.

Citing internal NASA studies, the 2002 report for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics said the risk of a shuttle encountering sprites, elves or blue jets when flying over a thunderstorm is 1 in 100 or less.

And there have been, I think, 113 shuttle flights to date?

Yes, 113.

5 different shuttles have flown and we have lost 2 of those. 6 were built, 1 was used as a trainer and never flew.
