EXPERIMENTS ON DOOMED SHUTTLE INCLUDED STEM-CELL RESEARCH
According to the Jerusalem Post, experiments planned for the Columbia included stem-cell research -- controversial because it involves the issue of cloning.
"Among the materials taken along are genetically engineered adult stem cell cultures, which will be used for an experiment prepared by scientists from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem," the newspaper reported on January 17. "It focuses on building new, specialized cells by isolating adult stem cells taken from bone marrow and converting them into bone, cartilage, or tendon cells by introducing specific genes into them."
According to the newspaper, the experiment was to advance the stem cell work of Professor Dan Gazit of the skeletal biotechnology laboratory at Hebrew University's Faculty of Dental Medicine. Gazit and his wife Dr. Sulma Gazit were guests of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Agency and witnessed the launch of the space shuttle.

Can you or I tell if these were actually adult or could they have been fetal? Do we trust the press release. Maybe God knows better.
Note, the problem with any stem cell research is that noone can verify that the stem cell work being done is using fetal or adult cells. How is a company going to be monitored in this aspect. This is the main reason to ban government funding of all this research.
The taxpayer cannot be guaranteed that their money is being used morally.

Considering that the source of this is connected with the Fatima "apparitions" I am extremely skeptical. Fatima is a fringe movement within Catholicism. If it weren't for JP's
devotion to this nonsense it would have fallen by the wayside by now

None of the experiments I have heard about sounded as if it was that vital. I see no reason why they could not have waited to put the heavy lab on one of the lighter shuttles, not the Columbia, the heaviest shuttle.

What, so this is supposed to be some kind of cosmic
ZOT! by the big Admin Moderator in the sky?
Could be, but I would look at more earthly reasons first.

The story of the Fatima apparitions is a compelling one, particularly when you consider that all of the events foretold at Fatima eventually came to pass.
Pope John Paul II has had a particular devotion to Our Lady of Fatima ever since he survived the assassination attempt in 1981. The attempted assassination occurred on May 13th, which happens to be the anniversary of the first Fatima apparition.

NASA is in deep trouble for allowing this shuttle to fly...
They were warned over and over again!

"The taxpayer cannot be guaranteed that their money is being used morally." You don't say! Funding for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SSI, Welfare, Corporate Welfare, NPR, NEA, DEA, IRS, billions of dollars for Africa, on top of billions of dollars to Egypt and Israel and a bunch of unnecessary departments of government cost us two trillion dollars per year. I think we can guarantee that the taxpayer's money will be used immorally.

Maybe God knows better. Is that the kind of God you believe in? One that would murder seven people to make a point?

I may be showing my ignorance, but why does this research need to take place on a space shuttle? Can't it be done on Earth? I can only assume that the weightlessness (?) of outer space is a factor.

It was the one that would go into orbit for experiments, etc. The others had more capabilities.

Will you guys relax. Nothing by that statement suggests that he believed God blew the shuttle up. Nothing by that statement suggests anything other than that perhaps the press is lying about what kind of stem cells they were, and that "God knows better".
Some people seem to be hell bent on libeling those who dare mention punishment from God (even though in this particular case, the author did nothing of the kind).
Pick up the Bible sometime, you might read a story somewhere about a lot of rain , a guy named Noah, and the death of every single human and animal on Earth not on that little boat.
Isai 45:6-7 "That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that [there is] none beside me. I [am] the LORD, and [there is] none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these [things]."

Respectfully George, I believe the shuttle disintegrated because of loose tiles.
To: He Rides A White Horse
Respectfully George, I believe the shuttle disintegrated because of loose tiles. I agree.
But why did the ice fall on takeoff and damage the tiles on this flight. Why not a year ago.
Only He knows why!
To: George from New England
Only He knows why!Of course. However, puishment isn't the only possibility. This is a trying time in the world at present. Let me submit that if this were a direct act of God, it could be an attempt to bring the countries involved closer together See?
