Pro-war camp can't make the case that an attack is in national interest Feb. 2, 2003 Orange County Register Column By Ted Galen Carpenter Vice president for defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute.

President George W. Bush, his surrogates, and the White House's pro-war allies in Congress and the media routinely cite an array of reasons a U.S. military campaign to overthrow Saddam Hussein is a good idea.

Because war is the continuation of politics by other means.

Because the UN must act or disband.

Because war is an idea proven by time, and that time has come.

Because the superbowl is over and there is nothing on the box.

Oh, brother.

Maybe you and your lilly-livered peacenik buds would rather a community containing your friends and family be poisoned before you understand that real Americans are going to put their lives on the line to protect your right to be such a cowering pu**y?

You have the right, but you don't have the spine.

Are you serious? You think that because Saddam does not have the capability to reach the US, that its ok if he bombs Israel, or Italy or Spain, perhaps? Or maybe you think that he will just use the WMD for a little blackmail, like Kim Jong Il? Maybe you don't care if Saddam gets the embargo lifted and makes moves to convert the Opec trading to the Euro, to ruin our economy? Maybe you are a leftist.

We can and have made the case. Most journalists and all liberals are just idiots.

This was written by a Vice president of the Cato Institute. The phantom capitol building for the pro-drug Libertarians on FR.

Would you be willing to go to war AFTER saddam unleashes a nuke or chemical weapon in your city?

The Cato institute is irrelevant on foreign policy issues because they are to isolationist. There foreign policy is one of paralysis by analysis.

Of course it wouldn't. Communist little people only come to power following closely behind tyrants. Which is all the more reason to eliminate the enemy by all means necessary.

One of the reasons I want to see Saddam gone is because of those we lost in the Gulf War, They would be spinning in their graves to think we put up with Saddam's BS this long. If we don't enforce the cease-fire agreements and the 17 U.N. Resolutions, then they gave their lives for absolutely nothing.

To me that is Job #1

You forgot Wolfie and MrLeRoy. FR's resident "pot is the savior for the world" posters.

Anyway, this appeasment article coming from a Vice President of the Cato Institute is very enlightening to the true cause of the Cato institute(appeasment, drugs, etc.etc.). IMHO.

>>>I am posting this article because I agree with it, and I would like to hear some other thoughts on it.

Many FReepers on this thread, have shown that you and the writer, Ted Galen Carpenter, are dead wrong on this subject matter.

I also see you signed up on Febuary 5th., which would lead me to believe a possible connection with some Middle East or European fanatical anti-war organization. May be, you're even a supporter of Saddam and Usama. Who knows.

Anyway you slice it, you're wrong!
