Developing. Watch MSNBC for latest. Internal memo shows some engineers believe there was up to a 7 1/2-inch gash from the foam breakoff at launch. Memo was serious enough to go out to all NASA centers two days before disaster.

I don't understand why they didn't just beam the crew somewhere. Don't say that too loud; there are some here who would probably say that and mean it!

There is a vast difference between criticism of individual policies, and a concerted effort to find wrong BEFORE the facts are even known. Those who must BASH as a precursor to the gathering and analysis of all significant data, are running their own biased, ignorant agenda.

Jay Barbree emphasizes that there would still have been nothing that could have been done, even if the gash was that big, no matter how much of a ruckus would have been made They aren't going to hammer NASA for letting them deorbit when there was no other option. They will hammer NASA for the decision tree that let them get in that situation, for not anticipating. See link below:

Yeah, I know! Scary, isn't it?
General Note: (Star Trek is just a television show, people. There's always a solution for the U.S.S. Enterprise, but real life isn't always like that.)

There's always a solution for the U.S.S. Enterprise, but real life isn't always like that.Oh, come on! It's obvious NASA could easily fix this by hiring better script writers and special effects crews.

That was you? I figured someone had copped your password. I looked and looked for a gratuitous insult, but NOTHING. : )

August 25, 2002 is when Nelson sent his letter. In this instance, (this whistle blower) acted BEFORE the disaster.....

It's obvious NASA could easily fix this by hiring better script writers and special effects crews.Well, for that they'd have needed more money.
So you see, this can all be traced back to an egregious budgeting failure by President Bush (and somehow, incredibly but not atypically, one Mr. Karl Rove). : )
WHY WASN'T THERE A TRANSPORTER ROOM ON THAT SHUTTLE?
To: Timesink
Now telling that the WH rebuffed Don and says there will now be a push to say oh its just one of those things we could do nothing to cover their backside but truth is there was warnings and the people in power don't want to stop it because the program may never get off the ground and all the pork is gone.

Well, you've got my vote. I believe we ought to appoint you Director of Safety for NASA so we never, ever have one of these foul-ups again.
To: JCEccles
Yeah, that was messy, wasn't it? "Digitize me!"

I don't understand why they didn't just beam the crew somewhere. No duh !!!!! What's up with that anyway?
