>>...but in no way are these people heroes....<<
You stand underneath that bird on the pad as I have, THEN you make that statement!
ANYBODY that goes up in that bird is a HERO to me.

abc just had their pentagon reporter metion a "thermal event detected" by a spy satellite used to check for missle launches.
On the shuttle, or on the ground?

Care to dumb that down for those of us who can't comprehend speeds like that, and don't understand avionics?
To: Jhoffa_
Shut up and give it a rest. Rise above it and just ignore it.

Thanks aristeides...
CBS Radio: there was a loss of telemetry from the left wing before the breakup.
They will have a lot of data that will be embargo'ed, I'd expect, but bits like you picked up, will occur.

A friend of mine has Al-Jazeera, and said that the network did show some celebrating... Sick, sick bastards.

I think I caught the Shepard Smith comment about the Indian astronaut. He mentioned that she had flown on another mission and she made some mistake in relation to a satellite and they had to send another astronaut out to retrieve it.
To: conservativemusician
Okay, on further thought I will concurr that it is dangerous but I guess I have a different idea of what a hero should be and not what Clinton and the press has been telling us one is for the last 10 years.

Per NBC News, the President is about to go live!!

I believe they'll find (when looking at timestamps) that the event was the explosion of Columbia.

They are heroes because the risks of service to their country were so great. They knew they could die serving their country but braved the risk to serve.
That's why they are heroes.
If that's not the definition of heroism, then heroism has no meaning.

Kinda like popping a wheelie while using a hurricane to slow your fall off of a cliff.
To: Smile-n-Win
I will accept that.

>>... strongly suspect the Soviets discovered something during the Buran test flights that turned them white with fear at what would happen if it actually flew with humans aboard...<<
I read an extensive article recently on the Buran. It was costs and bureaucratic in-fighting that did it in.

Pretty gutsy (And kind of stupid in an "Assumming" way) statement.
Anybody know how much control these astronauts have over the shuttle during the time this thing broke-up? And, any idea if she was behind the controls?
Of course, my questions are based on the assumption that she really did screw-up like Shep alluded too.

You will ruffle feathers by telling the truth here..
It's FReerepublic doncha know.

i really don't know , it was just that the pentagon was looking into 2 things, 1. a "unusual thermal event" detected by the launch detection satellite ( i am assuming ground but dont know, or 2. maps of space debris which the pentagon does, keeping shuttles out of space junk fields....whole thing struck me a really odd, but i still lean heavily on a tragic accident 99.99%
