While the jockeying among potential candidates in Georgias 6th district has for the most part been behind the scenes so far, two Republicans including former Rep. Bob Barr (Ga.) are inching closer to announcing their candidacies.

You haven't heard much about Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate in '04 to replace Zell Miller, who will be retiring. But still waters run deep. A summit meeting is in the offing, to determine which of two black conservatives will take a stab at the office: state Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond or Attorney General Thurbert Baker. The thinking is that there is no sense in risking the careers of both state constitutional officers.

Other possiblities for RATS could be Maynard Jackson /Cleland or Ex Sec state

I don't want Mike Kenn, a Lincoln Chafee Wannabe, to win the GA-06. However, I don't want Barr to return to Congress either. Couldn't some black conservatives run for the House seat?

Uh, yeah, I heard something about that in a previous thread. Don't remember who though . . . and the whities aren't about to step aside from their chance at congress.
Politics1 also lists Bill Byrne, sen maj leader Tom Price, and various other legislators as possible candidates.

Agreed. This is why I have zero respect for Bob Barr.

I agree with you. Jack Kingston will get my vote. A coworker of mine has the ratings from the American Conservative Union in his favorites. After I told him about Kingston, he looked him up and his rating is one of the highest (high 90s). Isakson's rating, If I remember correctly, was in the 80s. He said that was all he needed to see. He will vote for Kingston also.
