[history]
ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast - Leading political figures renounced a days-old peace plan for Ivory Coast - one called it ''null and void'' - and hundreds of French nationals fled the country, fearing more anti-French violence over the accord.
In Paris, French authorities declared themselves ready for a full-scale evacuation of their citizens, targeted by enraged progovernment rioters who say the French-brokered plan to end civil war gives too much power to rebels.

You got UN permission for that, France? And we want to see the smoking guns in the hands of the people attacking you. Literally.
What this article does not say is that the rebels are Muslim, and the loyalists are Christian. Yes, it's our old friends from the Religion of Peace.

The French tried to sell out the Ivory Coast to the Muslims. Non-Muslim Ivorians had better sense than to accept the French "Solution".

I heard the rebels had advanced weaponry now; they have learned to put sharpened rocks on the ends of their sticks. You know the French can't stand up to firepower like that.

It certainly would appear that the French are acting unilaterally here. Where is their shame (rhetorical)? Considering the present world and national situations, the omission of facts about Muslims being the rebels, would seem to be more than a mistake.

While I am not up on the reasons for the rebellion, it would appear that giving the rebels the power of the police and military is a sure way to give them the entire country. Why in the world would the government of IC even negotiate such a thing in the first place?
The French increasing police presence? I don't recall a UN vote authorizing that!
Surprisingly, I am enjoying watching the French squirm and having THEIR flags burned while seeing crowds extolling the USA. Its a rueful nod to justice.

Ha! I like the new French uniforms. It's good they've taken away their rifles.
They always throw them away anyhow.

Ivan,
As a matter of fact Koffi Annan was at the conference in Paris, I suppose as a kind of endorsement. Chirac is very dumb but he is careful. If things turn very sour, he will always be able to blame the UN...

I do give them credit for rescuing the children from that school a few weeks ago.
Nonetheless, I feel really sorry for those loyalists returning to France. Wait until they find out it isn't any different at home...

A headline that reads:
French aren't fleeing! Now that would be a news story.
This is more like Bill Clinton Tells Lie or Scientists Conclude Grass Is Green. Of course the French are fleeing, they're French! :-)

That has to be one of my all time favorite Python skits.
Thanks for the laugh!!!

In Paris, French authorities declared themselves ready for a full-scale evacuation of their citizens,...Actually, the evacuation order has been rescinded. It was just a big mix-up. A couple of German tourists at a sidewalk cafe were trying to order some souffle, and the waiter mistook it for a surrender demand.
