The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen, said security at Shannon airport will be stepped up following this morning's attack on a US military aircraft.

Mary Kelly, with an address at the Peace Camp at Shannon, was charged with causing damage to a US Navy 737 airplane, belonging to the US government, without lawful excuse.
The Court was told that when she was arrested by Gardaí on the airport tarmac at 5am, she had a hatchet in her hand.
Gardaí said up to 500,000 worth of damage was done to the plane - to the nose, the nose wheel, the hydrolics and the electrics and that the cost of the damage was likely to be revised upwards.
The Court was told it was Ms Kelly's defence that she acted with lawful excuse. Mary Kelly was initially remanded in custody with consent to bail on her own surety of 5,000.
She was ordered to leave County Clare immediately, surrender her passport, and sign on three times a week at Skibbereen Garda Station.
However, she refused to sign the bail bond and was remanded in custody to appear at Tulla District Court on 5 February.
Support for action
The Green Party leader Trevor Sargent has defended the action, claiming that there was a justification for non-violent direct action against the US war effort against Iraq.
And the Irish Anti-War movement commended the direct action, saying whoever damaged the plane obviously felt strongly enough about the issue to challenge the physical presence of US military aircraft using Shannon Airport.

He climbed into the cockpit of an unlocked European Aviation Boeing 737, which was empty and unguarded, and smashed instrument panels and equipment. He was about to attack another aircraft when he was detained by airport security. The 18-year-old later admitted to officials that he was a supporter of Saddam Hussein. But suing her for damages - squeezing every last cent out of her to pay for it - well, she may have sung "imagine no possessions" along with John Lennon, she may as well get to live it. ;)

That's because you think there's such a thing as "someone elses property." Property rights in and of themselves are oppressive. </sarcasm>
Now, imagine what the Green Party would think if a deranged Christian woman had done a half-million dollars worth of damage to medical equipment inside an abortion clinic. (are there any abortion clinics in free Ireland?)
