[history]
Brian DeVries, a serial child molester who had himself surgically castrated, is one step closer to being released from a maximum-security state mental hospital to live in San Jose under 24-hour electronic surveillance and tight police supervision.
Today, DeVries asked a Santa Clara County judge to release him from Atascadero State Hospital, where 400 of the state's ``sexually violent predators'' are confined indefinitely. A hearing on the matter is set for Feb. 24.

I can think of lot's of non-surgical ways he could have been castrated.

This was a huge story back about seven years ago here in Texas. A repeat offender asked to be "chemically castrated," so that he could finally be released from prison.
The ensuing debate included lots of revelations about how the problem does NOT reside strictly in the testicles.
In the end, the whole thing was put aside, and the guy remained in jail. There is simply no evidence that castration "cures" a sick freak of this type.

California authorities can commit certain high-risk sex offenders to the state mental hospital indefinitely for treatment even after their criminal sentences are completed I have two problems with this.
1. When the sentence is over, they should be released. No after the fact stuff.
2. Why in the HELL are child molesters and their ilk not being sentenced to LIFE? That'll end the whole debate right there.

We had a guy here in Western Washington that underwent chemical castration. He was released to his home in Port Orchard. He sued the state to allow him to receive monthly dose of viagra. The probation caseworker was on his side. He needed to have a relationship with his wife according to the court filing.
The local talk radio station KVI got after the issue, and it didn't take long until the suit was thrown out. Pretty scary situation. These creeps should never be released.

"A ball peen hammer comes to mind."A very dull knife would work as well.

Castration does not, in itself, make it impossible for a man to have sex. It might lessen or eliminate sexual desire in some men, but if sexuality is linked to another trigger and is powerful (as in the case with perverts) castration will do nothing to eliminate those triggers.

I fear the disingenuous "progressives" will answer your second question with "Bush tax-cuts". In reality, there is no answer. They should be in a small box for the rest of their worthless lives being let out only for a couple hours a day to "make little ones out of big ones".

Or a shotgun..preferebly 12 gauge with 3 1/2 inch shells.

A ball peen hammer comes to mind. (pardon the implicit pun) That sounds like adequate punnishment.

"Or a shotgun..preferebly 12 gauge with 3 1/2 inch shells."Why make it so quick and easy? A low base .410 with bird shot would be better.

The problem is, castration--surgical or chemical--doesn't always do the trick. These perversions are wired into their brains. To be fully effective, the castration would have to be from the neck up.

How is this guy different from Catholic priests guilty of the same crimes?

The answer is to lock child molesters up for good. No parole for any reason. Those who would molest the innocent have no place in public.
To: Ronin
They could always release him and leave his johnson in jail, or vice versa.

Are you saying viagra cures castration? I have never heard that.

How is this guy different from Catholic priests guilty of the same crimes? Oooh, oooh, I know.
They don't go to jail.
Actually, they don't get caught immediately and the police would be up to their ears handling the false charges by people wanting money from the Church.

"Are you saying viagra cures castration? I have never heard that."I'm not sure. I think he was/is on a scheduled chemical program that requires him to take meds that inhibit his sexual functions. This is why he wanted periodic viagra pills. He also wanted the state to pay for viagra. Talking about balls!
The chemical castration involved for perverted sexual preditors is not like what we do to the pigs and bulls on the farm, unfortunately. I would volunteer to do the proceedure on the pervs if it was.
