This was a huge story back about seven years ago here in Texas. A repeat offender asked to be "chemically castrated," so that he could finally be released from prison.

The ensuing debate included lots of revelations about how the problem does NOT reside strictly in the testicles.

In the end, the whole thing was put aside, and the guy remained in jail. There is simply no evidence that castration "cures" a sick freak of this type.

California authorities can commit certain high-risk sex offenders to the state mental hospital indefinitely for treatment even after their criminal sentences are completed

I have two problems with this.
1. When the sentence is over, they should be released. No after the fact stuff.
2. Why in the HELL are child molesters and their ilk not being sentenced to LIFE? That'll end the whole debate right there.

We had a guy here in Western Washington that underwent chemical castration. He was released to his home in Port Orchard. He sued the state to allow him to receive monthly dose of viagra. The probation caseworker was on his side. He needed to have a relationship with his wife according to the court filing.

The local talk radio station KVI got after the issue, and it didn't take long until the suit was thrown out. Pretty scary situation. These creeps should never be released.

Castration does not, in itself, make it impossible for a man to have sex. It might lessen or eliminate sexual desire in some men, but if sexuality is linked to another trigger and is powerful (as in the case with perverts) castration will do nothing to eliminate those triggers.

The problem is, castration--surgical or chemical--doesn't always do the trick. These perversions are wired into their brains. To be fully effective, the castration would have to be from the neck up.
