Great post! Nice to see more in print about things us Texans have known about for years.

the first President Bush damaged himself by ending the campaign calling Clinton and Al Gore those two bozos. The truth hurts.

Reckon he's trying to say lernt a smidgin too much.
Yep, I reckon he is.

The grammar in this essay is as pleasant to see as the screech of fingernails on a blackboard is to hear.

Poor Roland. He just can't stand it that Bush is doing so well, and he can't even write about Bush's success with displaying his anger that the voters are so "stupid" as to be "misled" by Bush's cunning political acuity.
To: MadIvan
Bush has carved out a highly successful career from being underestimated. Ahem...that's misunderestimated.

In the 1994 Texas Governors race, his opponent Ann Richards bombarded him with what was supposed to be cutting invective, calling him Junior, clueless, and the anaemic link at the tail end of the gilded Bush dynasty. He called her Governor Richards, and won by six points.
Ma has tried to explain to the democrats that President Bush is more apt to sit back and let you make a fool of yourself but they've yet to hear her. And so it goes..........

Hey, anyone look at the calendar - its only 2003 and the dems are piling up on top of each other to declare their presidential candidacy! MOST of America could care LESS at this time who's running for election that isn't for another 21 months! Bush knows that things will turn around by next year, and since Americans have short memories, this temporary downturn will pass once we WIN the war on Iraq and get the budget tax cuts implemented and NOT just for the rich either...I could sure use the marriage tax relief and with 2 kids the child tax credit also!-

Did The Times fire its editors? The expression is "hiding his light under a bushel basket." And the subhead has 'delivers' spelled as 'edlivers'. I didn't even bother reading the rest, given this inauspicious start.

Ivan, I missed meeting you at the Moran's function in NYC but I was really under the hammer of a cold/flu thing and I was lucky enough to just make it and eat and get home again!
I hope any future endeavor is not so marred!!
Further, I agree GW is displaying an almost Lincoln-esque sense of purpose, the elitists will never get it!!

Ann Richards is nothing but a dime-store version of Estelle Getty, zinging one-liners on The Golden Girls.

Did you ever consider that it is a play on words?
Hiding He's bright under a bushel basket?
Think for a minute, you'll get it!!

You need to start a "FReep this Poll" thread!!
Although thread hopping may produce better results!!
Nevermind!!

"a clear-headed, sharp-witted leader that Europeans either do not see"
The Europeans could not see it - because OUR MEDIA kept telling them something different.
