About 10 years ago I took my BB gun to the Pictured Rocks National Park. I had thrown in the water (Lake Superior) several sticks and was shooting them. Other than my wife, no one was on the beach. A Park Ranger came up from behind me and asked what I was doing with a firearm in the Park? I told him three times it was a BB gun. He had to walk over 100 yds. of sandy beach to get to me, so he knew what I was doing and what I was armed with. He had his hand on his sidearm the entire time.
According to the rules, BB guns, slingshots, crossbows, bow and arrow are all considered firearms!! He escorted me to my truck where I put my firearm behind the back seat of my truck. He took my name and said if it happens again I would be cited.
If it can happen here in the U.P. of MI, I can only imagine how bad it is elsewhere.

I hear that the Yoopers can't stand the Park Service folks.

Did you leave behind some trash, just to show that Ranger who's boss? Perhaps fell a tree or two, as a sign of man's triumph over nature?

When you get a chance, google 'leave no trace'.

Also, the DNR out of control in the UP. I was fishing with my son (then 10 years old) and dad on a a lake a couple years ago--and sure enough the DNR is hiding out in the woodline (which happened to be my dads property) After they watched my son bring in a fish--they came flying across the lake (this happened to be a no wake) with their 100+ hp motor and boat--and put us through interrogation and attempted to cite us for having improper life preservers in the boat. My dad--the crusty old guy he is--then threatened to make a citizens arrest on the DNR for illegal trespassing on his land... and report them for breaking the no wake law on the lake and told them they would not live to see another day if he ever saw them on his land again.

Never did a citation for "defective" life preservers.
