Ritter Speaks Out Against Sex Charges

(updated: January 23rd, 6:30pm) Former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter says he will not let a two-year old internet sex arrest stop him from speaking out on Iraq. And that is what he plans to do when he speaks at Schenectady Community College next month.

The story broke about the sex sting back in June of 2001. He was arrested, allegedly for having an online sexual conversation with what he thought was an underage girl. It was really an undercover cop. But the case was later sealed, and the Assistant DA in charge of it fired.

Ritter put off a trip to Iraq to talk about the subject. He said since the case was sealed he would not talk about the details. The outspoken critic of war with Iraq calls the timing of the leaked story suspicious.

Now many people including Schenectady County Legislator Susan Savage do not want Ritter to make pubic speeches on Iraq due to his arrest. Ritter is scheduled to give a speech at Schenectady County Community College on February 12th. Even with the controversy the college still plans on having him give his speech.

When the story initially surfaced Saturday in The Daily Gazette of Schenectady, Ritter told a reporter,

"Sorry, you must have the wrong person."

BUT THEN WED NIGHT HE SAID

"I was arrested on June 15 (2001) and charged with a class B misdemeanor,"

My daughter's an adult now, but she did enter college full-time 2 weeks after her 16th birthday (she had taken enough college courses prior to that to place her as a 2nd semester freshman). She was still living at home, of course, and I did all the parental warning things.

But there's a difference between being intelligent and being street smart. I don't know how she would've fared with someone as manipulative as Ritter.

The Republicans in the state legislature should announce they're going to cut the college's budget by $4000. The college is probably paying the $4 thou from student funds, but they will pay attention when they lose $4000 out of THEIR budget.

Not split hairs but in the interest of accuracy we should instead state that Iraq gave him at least $400,000. It could be more, that's just the amount known to the public from one source.
