How very sad. Prayers for her adopted children and other loved ones.
R.I.P Nell.
Anyhoo, Nell Carter's talents especially shone on stage. May she rest in peace.

Nell Carter planned well for her two sons
Nell Carter, who died last week at age 54, made sure her sons Joshua and Daniel would always have a parent to care for them, even if she wasn't there to fulfill that role.
When the Tony-winning singer-actress adopted the boys shortly after their births -- two months apart -- in 1989, she proceeded to recruit 10 friends to be the boys' godparents. She told us back then, ``I want to make sure that, if anything happens to me, the boys will be taken by two of the godparents.''
Her foresight paid off. We are told that those she so carefully chose to care for her sons are now stepping up to the plate to fulfill their responsibilities.
Says a source who had been close to Nell for years, ``She was, more than anything, a wonderful, caring mother. The boys (like Nell's grown daughter, Tracey) were raised with a loving yet strong hand. They had manners like you seldom see in young people these days.''
Joshua and Daniel, both African-Americans, have been raised in the Jewish faith, a religion to which Nell converted when she was married to Dr. Georg Krynicki of Vienna, Austria, in the late '80s.
Last month, Joshua -- who discovered his mother's body at their Beverly Hills home last week -- had his bar mitzvah.
``She was so proud,'' says a family friend.
And indeed she must have been. As she once told us of Joshua, ``I'm raising the first black Jewish Republican president.''
