That pic of SP was taken the night of the Dec 31 vigil for Laci. So on New Year's Eve, just about a week after his wife and almost-born son went missing, he seemed to have a pretty light heart.

There was a quote somewhere about how at that vigil, he was not sitting with the family, just moving around with smiles for a lot of the people there. Maybe it's just me, I don't think most people would be in such spirits on such a night. (Just my opinion though.)

Suspect in burglary of missing woman's Modesto home

The Associated Press

-- Modesto police have identified a suspect in the burglary of the home of a missing pregnant Modesto woman.

Laci Peterson's husband was in Los Angeles on Saturday expanding the search for his wife when the home was broke into.

Police didn't name the suspect and no arrests have been reported.

Police say Laci and Scott Peterson know the suspect. The person is one of many people with access to their home.

The stolen property has been returned.

Laci Peterson has been missing since Christmas Eve.

Police say the burglary was not related to Peterson's disappearance.

I read something interesting about the break-in over on websleuths. Someone had speculated, can't remember who, about what the items were, saying they were probably family things from Laci's family, and they were afraid they wouldn't get them back from SP.

Another poster, who seems to be in LE, but not in Modesto LE, said that she had heard through the grapevine that that's exactly what was taken. The family wanted some things back, and were afraid they would be returned. Unfortunately SP has them again, he didn't allow them to be kept.

Correction. That would be "were afraid they would not be returned."

"The school he went to encouraged community service," she said. "One day, he told us he was bringing his grandmother to Grandparents Day at the school. I asked where he got a grandmother. He told me he'd had one for a while.

The parents did not know what they son was doing even then, whether it was positive or not.

That sounds logical. Laci may have had some pieces of her mom's jewelry...sentimental things like that...family heirlooms.

SP would never return those things, with the vendetta that's shaping up between the two families.

Thanks for the comparison pictures. Yes, Scott should be afraid to show his emotion. He's smiling ear to ear. Question to all - have you ever met a (fertilizer)salesman who didn't have the gift of gab and didn't LOVE to talk? Same thing goes for someone who owns a successful restaurant like The Shack - restauranteers LOVE to talk. Never never at a loss for words. Moneymaking restaurant to fertilizer salesman - not a natural job segue. Being a showman and natural born talker is one of the few links I can come up with.

Exactly. This was the first thing that came to mind when Scott's family was protesting that he's too shy to go before the TV cameras.

What else is a fertilizer salesman but a bullshit artist?

Not for the same reasons, but I also believe Scott's unrest came after selling the restaurant and settling into "normal" family life and baby on the way, after trying trying trying. Laci was married, Scott apparently remained single.
