One teen-ager was killed and another was beaten when two men attacked them early Sunday after they threw eggs at cars, police said.

Investigators were looking for two suspects.

Jonathan Dewayne Shryock, 18, of Fresno, bled to death from stab wounds in his head and buttocks, police said. The second victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening. Police did not release his name but said he also is 18.

According to police reports, Shryock and the other victim were among a group of teen-agers walking down McHenry Avenue throwing eggs at passing cars.

The incident was reported a few minutes before 2 a.m., police said. The teen-agers were passing the Blockbuster store at 1234 McHenry Ave. when a red Kia and a Dodge Ram truck started chasing them. Police did not know if the teens hit either vehicle with eggs.

The teens ran south onto the campus of Merryhill School on Roseburg Avenue. The Kia and the Dodge blocked the exits to the school, witnesses said.

Witnesses saw the driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as Anthony Blair Durham, 22, and other men fighting with the victims, Detective Doug Ridenour said.

The unidentified victim told police the driver of the Kia struck him with a metal pipe. Durham struggled with the teen-ager and then pulled out a buck knife, cut the victim's knee and grabbed his wallet, Ridenour said. Durham then confronted Shryock, police said.

Shryock's twin brother, Matthew, said his brother was stabbed 13 times in the back, thigh and head.

The suspects left the scene in their cars, witnesses told police.

"Police officers arrived on scene and patrol officer Matt Spurlock applied a tourniquet and attempted life-saving techniques to stop Shryock from bleeding," Sgt. Al Carter said.

Both victims were transported to Doctors Medical Center. Shryock died a short time later. The second victim remained hospitalized Sunday.

Growing up in Indiana, I used to do this periodically. Lucky for me, Hoosiers don't take it as seriously.

Unfortunately, these young delinquents were probably killed by gang-members themselves. Harsh lesson to learn on the streets of California, it is not safe to chuck eggs at anything.

If the kids were at home behaving instead of out on the streets at 2AM committing mischief, one of them wouldn't be dead right now. As tragic an ending as this is, I am not too sympathetic for the youths stabbed.

We had to run for our lives thru front yards and back yards because the eggs we threw hit the girlfriends of some guys on both the HS football and hockey teams. It was a warm night, they had the convertible top down and we nailed them with about a dozen eggs before we had to get the heck outta there.

The attackers, if found, would certainly only face 2nd degree murder charges. The death penalty is a joke in California anyway. Even in this budget crisis, Governor Davis is proposing a lavish new death row facility to house all the inmates he's not executing.
