The Heart of Texas Chapter of FreeRepublic held the first meeting of the new year at the Acapulco Restaurant in Oakhill on Saturday, Jan 18. There were 6 members in attendance: The Bat Lady, the sarce, Tarawa, Blastus, (and Blastus, Jr), Gracey, and basil.
The first order of business was to talk about getting our own web site up and running. The Bat Lady graciously volunteered her husband, (and he agreed by phone) so an announcement will be made when the web site is ready.
We discussed a list of upcoming events in the Austin-San Antonio area to decide which of them we will participate in. The first one to come up was the announcement that the Big Creep (Clinton) will be in Austin to speak on Feb 12.
This event will take place at the Bass Concert Hall on the University of Texas Campus. The Creep has been invited as one of a "Distinquished Speakers" list. It looks like words don't always mean what they say. When plans are finalized for this event, a thread will be posted, but mark the date on your calendar if you are interested in attending.
Tarawa brought some printed material pertaining to the upcoming Northbridge Training Institute, Counter Attack 2003, to be held in Dallas on Feb 8-9. This institute has a good list of speakers lined up, including Susanna Gratia-Hupp, and Ken Blanchard--Black Man With a Gun. Basil and Tarawa plan to attend this institute, and some of the others are considering it.
This was our last meeting at the Acapulco Restaurant as, sadly they are closing. They have been very nice to us, and we are sad to see them close.
The next meeting will be held on Feb 22 at basil's house. All area freepers are invited to attend. The sarce has a movie she wants us to watch--something to do with Nancy Pelosi, but she wouldn't tell us anything about it, except to say that it contains a big, funny surprise.
If you are interested in attending this meeting, please freepmail me for directions.

Wish I could have made the meeting! Thanks for the report, basil!

It looks like words don't always mean what they say. What is "is"?
And you wonder why they make the mistake of calling him distinguished?
To: asneditor
I'm really looking forward to meeting you. Why don't you also plan to come to our next meeting on Feb 22?

Seems like I am just SOL lately! :-)
I will be leaving to do some on the
road reporting in New Mexico and
California on the 19th. I had planned on
leaving earlier than that until the plans
for the Ron Paul Privacy rally on the 17th
came through. Check our "Texas" page for that;
I posted the info last night.
Thanks for the invite though, and sooner or later
I will make a meeting. Please tell Gracey and Bat Lady
that I say Howdy.

The first order of business was to talk about getting our own web site up and running.Well there has been a Yahoo Austin FReepers discussion/notice web forum set up for the H.O.T. Chapter's use, which has been operating (not utilized fully) for the last 2 years. And of course there is the H.O.T. FRN chapter forum which has been under-utilized for the past year and a half.
Creating a new H.O.T. web site with a easy to remember domain name may help members and newcomers find us easier, but there are plenty of Internet communications resources out there for the chapter to utilize.

Since you were not in attendence at Saturday's meeting or at any of the HOT Chapter meetings the past few months I will excuse your lack of information on our chapter discussions. Since neither of the sites you mentioned have been utilized why would they suddenly become of interest to us. Obviously the HOT Chapter does not find either site of interest.
Also, please note that the HOT Chapter is not part of the FRN.

I did note that those forums were not being utilized by the H.O.T. chapter. That doesn't mean that they are not available for their use. My posting the links to them was an effort to remind H.O.T. chapter members that they do have these resources, had they forgotten the links.

Actually, I don't know how I got put on that yahoo list, but I have spent considerable time trying to get off of it. They send out notification whenever anyone in the entire state of TX either joins or quits that list. This is information I don't need, and I have enough email to cope with as it is.
We will continue conducting our business as the active members see fit.

I understand. It just didn't relate to what was discussed on Saturday and I wanted to make the clarification.

Basil,
I had set you up as a co-moderator of the Yahoo forum, back when I started it up. As a moderator Yahoo sends out notices to you when someone signs up or drops out of the forum. I can't change that function, but you can by going to the forum and clicking on members section and changing the notification option for your "original basil" account.
Again I was not criticizing your actions, just pointing out that there were resources already available that could provide what you were looking for. Of course you can choose to continue ignoring those resources, if you wish.

Thanks for the bump basil! I can't make it to either February event. I have company coming the second week of February. If you, Gracey or TXBubba will send me something with the info, I will forward it to the NTX Chapter.
