"drug users hurt no one but themselves."

>>Asinine statement, I need not respond. This speaks for itself in so many ways.<<

Actually 90% of drug users don't hurt anyone, not even themselves. It is only about 10% of drug users who have trouble with drugs. Just about the same percentage of users of alcohol have trouble also.

What you really have to ask yourself is how is the drug war benefiting me? Do you apreciate:

Higher taxes to pay for it
No evidence that the war is reducing drug usage.
Corrupt cops, selling drugs and stealing drug money.
No-knock raids that often kill innocents
Routine gunfights in some neighborhoods over turf.
Innocents killed in the turf crossfire.
A gang problem estimated to be 90% drug profit fueled.
Burglars who rob you to pay black market prices.
Carjackers who do the same
Pushers on campus who would not be there if drugs were legal. (any alcohol pushers on campus?)
600,000 Americans who are "NOT" paying taxes as they sit in prison at your expense... $30,000 per year each.
Non-corrupt police who are tied up arresting druggies, leaving little time to protect your family from real predators.

How do you benefit from the drug war anyway?

No evidence that putting rapist in jail reduces rape either by your logic!

Gee we should ignore all form of reason and logic, we should listen to you and just empty the jails.

We would start by releasing all the violent drug abusers first!

Hey LloydofDSS, can they send the first trial releases to stay at your home? Didn't think so. :)
