China's economy can do so. I'd be real interested to know what artificial currency supports are in play in China. Their first large scale depression will wreck incredible havok, I imagine.

China's technology is years behind the US already (especially on the military side), and will never catch up. Remember, there's a big difference between just building a TV or computer (which any third-world country can do - look at South Korea) and creating new technological breakthroughs (which are what keeps the US on top). Look at the number of patents issued worldwide - China is light-years behind the US when it comes to new ideas.
