There are ways to improve our security without sacrificing civil liberties, Clinton stressed. For starters, our government needs to start using the same kinds of tracking systems employed by direct marketers and credit card companies, he said.

Considering that direct marketers do cartwheels if they get a one percent response rate for their mailings, I would hardly believe it a worthwhile investment to spend billions of dollars developing a computer system that would create a list of potential terrorists where one percent may actually be terrorists. And the rate would probably be much lower - the average consumer is not trying to mask his or her buying habits, but a terrorist who is aware that such a system is in place will take steps to cover his purchases.

Yes, and Clinton worked hard to insure that the US would not be the biggest dog on the street. This was a major part of the Clinton agenda, as described by Sidney Blumenthal. Clinton's world view centered around the "Third Way", which differed from Bush's (I) New World Order in that Clinton saw the world as a flat organizational chart, whereas the New World Order included a pyramidal organization with the US at the top, helping to lift the others as the need presented itself.

That is the saddest web site. The alleged Werner Von Braun stuff is just plain 'out there'. There were no terrorists (other than the IRA) back when he was alive in the 60s. The Cooper quote is fiction. The other stuff about UFOs are a pastiche of real and unreal conspiracy factoids. US replicas of UFOs are a fantasy. The energy stuff is just pure '100 mpg carburator' stuff. And btw, Asteroids ARE, and always have been, a real threat to homo sapiens. Remember what happened to the dinosaurs? Mankind has been around this planet, in some form, only at best, several million years. We are and have been living on an unprotected planet which is just a punching bag for stray asteroids. It is only a matter of time, statistically before the planetary Russian Roulette wheel spins adversely against us. Simple prudence dictates a reasonable insurance policy.
