Like maybe France, Germany, Russia, China and of course the NK's are countries that have been shipping weapons and tech for WMD to Uncle Soddomite for decades.

If Uncle Soddomite gets cleared of the chess board and Iran falls quickly afterwards, these countries have lost a lot of their yearly GNP.

Unfortunately, going to the U.N. also bought us time to see one hell of an anti-war movement around the world. This is the downside that I see. Not that it will matter in the end, however. I believe that the protesters should be harping on saddam and asking him why he continues to lie to the world rather than scoffing at GWB's effort to ameliorate the Iraq problem once and for all. It must be that the protestors do not want war at any cost for any reason, which is an unrealistic -- if admirable -- want.

The harm, as I see it, is that we have acknoweldged the UN as a superior power to ourselves. People, or nations, only need to seek permission from their superiors, not their inferiors.

Besides making the UN irrelevant, making NATO irrelevant may have been an stealth goal of GW.

Since 9/11, it seems besides the UK, some of our best support in Europe has come from Spain/Portugal and Italy.

Before this war against Islamofascist Terrorism is over, we will see watershed changes in old alliances going down the drain and new alliances appearing on the scene.

But that's the beauty. Bush gave them a chance to prove their worth. The UN has failed miserably. He warned them that the US was prepared to go it alone. And I'll bet that will happen- with GB and Australia joining us.

I have this strange feeling that the real reason France and Germany will vote no is because they have been supplying Iraq with some military intelligence, in direct violation of the Gulf War treaty.

In any case, I say pull our troops out of Germany.

I disagree. While I do NOT think we need anyone's "approval" to do anything, it did not hurt to go to the UN---it a) bought us time, that we needed anyway, to get our troops in place. Now, instead of just waiting, it "looks" like the inspectors are "doing a job." All baloney, as you and I know; b) it gives the pretense (probably genuine in the case of the Bush admin.) of wanting to build a "coalition" and have the UN involved. In reality, this gave the UN one last chance to APPEAR to be relevant, and they are blowing it.

President Bush has and will achieve the following objectives by doing the UN route:

1 - Forced a new updated resolution while maintaining our right to strike if we deem necessary.

2 - Show the ineptitude of the inspection process albight under difficult circumstances due to the Iraqi's honed deception techniques and the geographical size.

3 - highlighted the UN's lack of action by forcing them to resume the inspections and hence highlight the continueing deception

4 - Gave us time to get the troops in position.

5 - show the weakness of the UN's intelligence info as we reveal damning photos/info shortly before commencing (we've trickled some out to see who are the leakers).

6 - once we have eliminated the Iraqi threat, we'll reap the fruits of freeing an oppressed nation and showing the UN that true freedom is not to be found in an institution that allows dictators/terrorist/despots from having an appearence of credibility

7 - show the UN that blatant anti-Israel/anti-American/pro-reparations tiffs, particuarly the race conference in South Africa a week before Sept. 11, will not stand for the emotionally-charged and intellectually-charged tripe that it is.

8 - allows us a center base of operations and will keep the mideast a little quieter.

9 - will inform the North Koreans of their potential plight

10 - will increase attacks on americans but in that unfortunate set of affairs, will make it clearer who are or are not our friends.

11 - has allowed W to keep our friends close and our enemies even closer until the (!?%$) hits the fan, then all bets are off with saudi arabia, yemen, etc.

We will be still sending ground troops and other land support groups after we start really attcking Iraq on or about 1 Feb..

Everyday here on the West Coast there is a news story of more Marines, troops, Air Force and Navy ships/personnel heading out. Friday's radio news was loaded with this info.

We needed this time to get our people over and to be ready after our air arms start to bang away.

Of course the perpetual whiners about President Bush are incapable of recognizing that reality. As usual they will be proven to be wrong way whiners.

So far, Bush has done almost everything he said he would do. He says we will go it alone if necessary. I suspect that he will not back down. So the UN can scream all they want, but if Bush is right, the Iraqi people themselves will be cheering U.S. soldiers soon, and the UN will look like idiots to complain about liberation and Arabs themselves welcoming the US. The shrill screaming is not because the dictators and leftists of the world think that we're wrong; it reflects the fact that they are afraid that the world will see that we are very right to have a war of liberation, making the world safe for western-style democracy.

I had been looking forward to watching the developments of a Taliban John trial for the base fact that one could clearly see, within the outside protesters, who are the groups filling the fifth column (know most of them but new ones crop up every day).

It has been the war protests that have pulled these very same cockroaches into the light for all to see.
