President Bush has and will achieve the following objectives by doing the UN route:
- Forced a new updated resolution while maintaining our right to strike if we deem necessary.
- Show the ineptitude of the inspection process albight under difficult circumstances due to the Iraqi's honed deception techniques and the geographical size.
- highlighted the UN's lack of action by forcing them to resume the inspections and hence highlight the continueing deception
- Gave us time to get the troops in position.
- show the weakness of the UN's intelligence info as we reveal damning photos/info shortly before commencing (we've trickled some out to see who are the leakers).
- once we have eliminated the Iraqi threat, we'll reap the fruits of freeing an oppressed nation and showing the UN that true freedom is not to be found in an institution that allows dictators/terrorist/despots from having an appearence of credibility
- show the UN that blatant anti-Israel/anti-American/pro-reparations tiffs, particuarly the race conference in South Africa a week before Sept. 11, will not stand for the emotionally-charged and intellectually-charged tripe that it is.
- allows us a center base of operations and will keep the mideast a little quieter.
- will inform the North Koreans of their potential plight
- will increase attacks on americans but in that unfortunate set of affairs, will make it clearer who are or are not our friends.
- has allowed W to keep our friends close and our enemies even closer until the (!?%$) hits the fan, then all bets are off with saudi arabia, yemen, etc.

Thanks for your excellent summary of what this so called delay has really meant for our side. It is so good, that I'm reposting it:
