Baker makes switch
State Rep. Larry Baker of Senatobia, who was elected to the House as a Democrat in 1999, has qualified to run for a second term as a Republican.
"I have been a conservative all my life and have pretty well gone with the Republican Party on most votes," said Baker, 63, a retired officer with the Mississippi Army National Guard and a cattleman.
Baker is the fourth lawmaker to switch parties this year after Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck made the move last December.
The Mississippi House now has 83 Democrats, 36 Republicans and three independents. The Senate has 31 Democrats and 21 Republicans.

Welcome to Rep. Baker! We may be running low on possibilities for new converts, however: a couple possibles have since ruled it out. Senators Travis Little -- a Tuck ally -- and Tommy Dickerson are still hangin' out there.

The Mississippi House now has 83 Democrats, 36 Republicans... To lose his majority status indicate clearly that Rep. Larry Baker is a man of ethics and a man of principle.
Welcome to the Light, Mr. Baker!!!

Yes, unlike a certain U.S. senator from Vermont, who was offered the world by switching, not to mention the irrisistible chance to become a 'historic figure' by singlehandedly tilting the power balance to the dems. Not to mention, on top of these goodies, the fawning, drooling, worshipful adoration of the media for such a 'brave' and 'courageous' deed. Anyhow, as it turned out, thanks Mr. Jeffords for helping hand the senate back to us, if you hadn't switched back then, who knows, maybe the dems would have regained it in the last election?!

Great news! Looking forward to the GOP taking the state senate, and this just proves the direction of the South--that is away from the foul demos and toward the more moral GOP.
Way to go.

The American recoiling-in-disgust continues. Ever since the Dems started showing a hint of their true colors (standing against tax cuts when the economy is hurting, against a defense against nuclear weapons, against helping America become more energy-dependent, against any policy or person simply because the are on the other side of the aisle... and standing for obstructionism, verbally supporting those who hate America, and a rabid eagerness to play the race and class cards), the nation has slowly and decidedly moved away from them (FoxNews climbs while the others fall, AM radio and the internet rise as newsprint and TV news fall, over 200 state-level Dems switch to the GOP nation-wide, both Houses of Congress are voted to be GOP-majorities for the second straight election cycle... Jeffords notwithstanding).
It isn't "their failure to get out their message", it's that their message contains little of value, their party has little honor or principles, and that many of their actions are plainly intended to harm America. If they can't figure out that those perceptions need to be changed, then we may possible see the first new party American politics in generations...
and please, let it be the Constitutionist/Libertarians! If the debate changes from "Which federal programs do we inflate, how fast, and for whose benefit" to "Which federal programs need to be larger/smaller, which need to be eliminated, which issues are not federal in nature, and can any program benefit a select few - either rich or poor - while using money from the general population". THAT would be a far worthier debate for the hallowed halls of Congress. Unfortunately, with the high population of liberal-sheep out there, it will probably be the Green or Socialist Party... but that still improves the debate, which would then be "are people entitled to their own property, can businesses thrive (or even survive) if the workers have more power than the company, and when does the government have too much power". THOSE debates would be very illuminating.

Your is an excellent post, many good points.
Since the late forties, immediately following WWII, the Communists have tried to exploit the situation in the Mid East. The creation of Israel by the UN, backed only at the last minute by Harry Truman, gave the Communists an excuse to foment turmoil in that area. Their goal was to aggravate old animosities and split that area from Western (non-Communist) control. They used the ancient conflict between Muslims and Jews to try to divide the area to their advantage. While the West, mainly the USA, armed Israel against attack, they armed the rest of the Arab world.
Today, after years of Communist support, the Muslim world has developed ambitions of their own. They are still being used by the Communists, Russia (yes, Russia) and China, as a tool to defeat the West. The Communist still think that in the end they can eliminate the Muslims after the Muslims have helped them eliminate us. However, they may have created a Frankinstein monster who also threatens them.
It is getting to be a dicey game for them and it has boiled down to us against the world. One of our biggest hurdles is the Communists, no matter the name (Democrats, progressives, liberals, etc,.) within our own borders. This is truly crunch time for freedom.
God Bless America.
