Was Someone Plotting To Kill (WA) Governor Locke?

OLYMPIA - A man arrested on a firearms charge might have been plotting to assassinate Governor Locke.

James D. Brailey, Jr., 43, was arrested Wednesday when federal agents and state troopers raided his home near Olympia.

Federal court documents in Tacoma say an informant told authorities in March of 2001 that Brailey planned to kill the governor.

The documents also give the following account of the informant to federal agents:

They say Brailey, Jr. was a member of the Jural Society -- a group that does not believe in state or federal government. Instead, they believe in a "people's government" based upon Christian principles and common law. Brailey was elected "Governor of the State of Washington" at a Jural Society election in October of 1998.

The informant said Brailey hated Locke because of Locke's ethnicity and that Brailey believed he himself was the only true governor of the state.

The informant says after Brailey's election, he carried numerous weapons, including a rifle under his coat, and two other hand guns, and went into the Capitol Building for a "dry run" to see if he could get into the building without being noticed.

Brailey was apparently successful in getting inside, and even saw Locke at a distance, but decided that the time was not right to shoot him.

The informant said Brailey told him he made several other visits to the Capitol for reconnaissance.

In July 2001, Brailey was voted out of office by the Jural Society because of his increasing violent tendencies, but that he kept in contact with some members of the society.

In November 2002, agents used a second informant to become acquainted with Brailey. That informant says he met with Brailey at Brailey's home and was shown numerous weapons. On Dec. 31, 2002, Brailey and the informant drove to Arkansas to atttend a Christian Identity group meeting.

During the drive east, Brailey told the informant about his dry runs at the Capitol building and his alleged plots to assassinate the governor.

Brailey also told the informant that he had access to two claymore mines, and that he was carrying them with him during his original "dry run" at the Capitol. He said he planned to use them to break through a wall or to take out a large number of people.

Agents arrested Brailey Wednesday shortly after he returned to Olympia.

Brailey is charged with illegally possessing a .44-caliber revolver, because of a domestic violence conviction in Utah. He has not been charged in connection to the alleged plot to kill the governor.

Brailey is being held in the federal detention center in SeaTac.

Utah people are amongst the most decent and moral people in God's country. How can this man do this kind of stuff in Utah?

Maybe his halo slipped.

He probably got ratted out by his fellows when they realized he was going around the bend.

Riddle me this, though: the Jural Society doesn't believe in federal OR state governments, but he was elected GOVERNOR OF WASHINGTON at the Jural Society meeting?

Hello, Houston, we have an intellectual consistency problem...

Very strange.

The article states "They say Brailey, Jr. was a member of the Jural Society -- a group that does not believe in state or federal government. Instead, they believe in a "people's government" based upon Christian principles and common law. Brailey was elected "Governor of the State of Washington" at a Jural Society election in October of 1998."

The informant said Brailey hated Locke because of Locke's ethnicity and that Brailey believed he himself was the only true governor of the state.

Why would a person who does not believe in state or federal government declare himself Governor of the state of Washington? And if the Jural Society stands for Christian principles and common law, I wouldn't think assassination would be at the top of their to-do list. Methinks the guy is a nut case. Also, poor reporting. Christian principles just took another whack in the press.

I don't think any place is immune to nut cases. This guy believed he was the only true governor, which is a switch on believing he is Napoleon, although with a little coaxing I think he would have bought it.

Time for people to scrutinize these anarcho-desperado social-misfits.

I agree -- there is quite a bit of a consistency problem here. But we do have our lunatic fringe. I've met a couple; they exhibit a serious disconnect from reality -- and yet seem to function somehow...

I have difficulty believing this guy could get that close to the Gov with weapons. In most govt offices, anywhere, you have to pass through several metal detectors just to get into the building. Maybe that's not the case in WA, but it is here in CA; even in court buildings.

If this guy had to go through metal detectors, there is no way he could get a rifle and 2 other guns into the building. I was turned away because I had nail clippers in my purse. I had to remove them from my purse, take them to my car and then return to be rescreened to get into the building.

In related news, the FBI has opened a RICO investigation of a number of Washington state politicians and judges, including Gov. Locke, AG Gregoire and state Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerry Alexander. I met with the Special Agent in Charge, Jenna Davis, of the FBI office in Tacoma on Monday of this week. They tried to avoid doing their job but they have decided they are unwilling to become defendants themselves. I plan on posting a thread with more details sometime this week. Kinda cool since Locke has been selected by the Democrats to respond to GWB's state of the union speach. I may even try to get to D. C. while Locke is there.

Anyone who would uses or threatens to use violence against government officials is both foolish and dangerous to the cause of restoring the constitutional rights of citizens. I, for one, will only seek redress of my grievances against government officials through the courts. It may take a while, but it is ultimately the only way to hold corrupt government officials accountable. I am a patient and persistent man; and very knowledgeable and determined.

Put me on the list to notify when you post your article. Re: this nutcase, he just created a whole new little bureaucracy: The office of Special Protection for the Governor. The State Patrol currently does it, but after this, security will obviously have to beefed up. Can't have the riffraff getting near the gov.

Before you make such a general statement I suggest you research a little about finding fairness and justice in our present day courts. Start with an article titled The Fall of Justice (Google search will find it).

BTW; As far as finding corrupt officials accountable; I've experienced it first hand through the courts and it rarely happens. For the most part, the court system considers average Joe citizen a serf.
