DALLAS: BMW SOUGHT IN HIT-AND-RUN

(DALLAS, January 14) -- Two people have now died in what Dallas-area police say was a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 35-E in northwest Dallas. Two others were injured in the incident early today. Police are looking for a battered silver BMW. The deadly sequence that unfolded on Stemmons Freeway northbound between Walnut Hill and Royal lanes unfolded after a car clipped an 18-wheeler and had caught fire. Another motorist stopped to join a passenger from the burning car in helping the driver escape the flames. Police say the BMW then came speeding through the scene at an estimated 110 miles per hour. Officers say the driver tried to swerve between the disabled vehicles and hit three people. The two who were trying to help the driver escape were hit and injured fatally. A bystander suffered a broken leg. The driver will be okay.

Considering that the driver of the vehicle hasn't even been identified yet, your screen name seems ironic.

Yes, it's true that the driver of the vehicle hasn't officially been determined yet, but I think that the fact that it was Goodrich's car, along with the fact that Goodrich surrendered himself to police because, as he said, "he knew that they were looking for him", would lead a lot of people to assume that Goodrich was the driver. I'm also going on that assumption. If it turns out that Goodrich wasn't driving the car, then whoever was driving the car should receive a fair trial, and a very long prison sentence.

The term "accident" is overrused and misused so often. This was no accident. Barreling down the highway at 100mph is simply begging for trouble. Not stopping after you hit 4 people and kill two of them is no accident. Oh sure, sure, I'm sure he didn't mean to kill anybody, but this is what happens when we break the rules, break the law because of our own selfish little wants with no regard for the lives of other people on the highway.

I've driven this highway thousands of times. It does take more concentration than a Sunday drive in the country because it's a major trucking route. The Hit-and-Run aspect is inexcusable.

There is a fire station not more than 2 miles from the scene of the accident. They should have been able to get there is less than 5 minutes. Stopping in the middle of this highway at night is not a good idea. I applaud the heroics of the rescuers. I hope they tried to do it as safely as possible, and Goodrich gets the harshest penalty available.

I travel through Dallas fairly often and I agree that the traffic on I-35 is bad. I would say the running 80-85 during the off hours is fairly average. I was also told recently that the Dallas PD is not issuing speeding tickets because they are long overdue for a raise. I am a cowboys fan but he definately deserves to be locked up for a long, long time.

to bad for him he is not a starter or even a star player, then he is home fre and will be suited up for the pre-season. THat he is a marginal player will allow the NFL and the courts prove they are tough on athletes by throwing the book at him. LOL! As cold as this sounds, it's the first time Dwayne has hit anything since being here in Dallas. The guy couldn't cover my dead grandmother. He would have been the first one cut by Parcells anyway even before the accident. He single-handedly cost the Boys the game against San Francisco.

Right now we do not have all the facts. Speaking generally, I must doubt the vaidity of reports about the speed of the suspect's vehicle. At trial, this will be a central focus of the defense ... if the case goes to trial.

Another point is were there any passengers in the suspect's automobile? A witness who is friendly with the suspect will help him greatly.

Finally, I want to know who was the first person that Cowboys' player Dwayne Goodrich telephoned on his cell phone and what did they discuss? I must assume he called his Sports Agent and the agent brought in a criminal defense lawyer right away. If so, then they talked within the protection of attorney-client privilege. But if Mr. Goodrich had been drinking the most important thing he needed was 'breathing space' to sober up and time to put distance between himself and his automobile.

I can speculate about what happened all day .... But when the case unfolds there will be nuances upon nuances. Mr. Goodrich can afford the best lawyer money can buy. I will not be surprised if he gets a light sentence because he will be able to afford major legal counsel.

What I privately believe happened will be offensive to almost everybody .... Must Zip My Lips out of caution.
