North Korea threatens to start test-firing missiles

01/12/2003

Chicago Tribune

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea on Saturday threatened to take another dramatic step in the nuclear crisis, saying through its ambassador to China that it might test-fire a missile.

A day after declaring itself free of the global nuclear nonproliferation agreement, the North Korean government made clear its intention to pursue a strategy of brinkmanship.

North Korea frightened Asia in 1998 by test-firing a medium-range missile over Japan without warning and then declared a moratorium on further tests. In threatening another launch, it signaled its willingness to use increasingly menacing behavior to attempt to coerce the United States into granting North Korea the security guarantee and concessions it seeks.

"Because all agreements have been nullified by the United States side, we believe we cannot go along with the self-imposed missile moratorium any longer," Ambassador Choe Jin Su said in Beijing.

Such a move is essential to counter possible U.S. attack, Mr. Choe said, blaming the United States for North Korea's decision to abandon its freeze on nuclear activities.

North Korea reminds me of a badly misbehaving teenager. If they don't stop acting like a spoiled brat, they just might get the (U.S.) attention they seem to be looking for !...

...although President Bush insists on using other approaches (for the time being, anyway).

Man, it's too bad this is sourced to the Chicago Tribune and I have to post excerpt only.

Sad. The U.S. carries the good will burden for the world. Our country cares more for their people than the wicked communist government that enslaves them. I wonder how much little food gets to the hungry?...

This sounds like an oppertune time to test our new airborn anti-missle laser. They launch'em and we knock'em down. Kinda like skeet shooting.

"PULL"

I understand the new Patriot 2 anti-missile batteries were recently installed in South Korea.
Maybe we'll get a chance to try out the new system.

Oh really? How is that?

Never saw a million-man teen-ager army with nuke capability.

Perhaps you don't agree with my statement, but I don't think I deserved that remark...
