Summary synopsis in English of Japanese language article just breaking on the web now, by Sankei News (out of New York City)....Provided by Freeper AIT
Text summary:
"UN SANCTIONS AGAINST US WILL BE A DECLARATION OF WAR"
North Korean ambassador to the United Nations Mr. Park, in in effort to put a lid on UN sanctions against his nation for withdrawing from the International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA), threatened in a press conference today at the United Nations [Jan 10], that for the United Nations to go ahead with sanctions on North Korea, it would be interpreted as a 'declaration of war.'
He said the NPT (non proliferation treaty), which North Korea also pulled out of today, is nothing more than 'a tool of the enemy the United States'. He said further that the issue needs to be settled between the United States and North Korea only based on negotiations, and for Bush to ignore negotiations is foolish.
Furthermore, he said the North's movements on nuclear development are all in the court of the Americans based on their actions.

Chart, above, accompanies another article in the Chosun Ilbo conservative daily in Seoul, showing the similiarities to escalation of tension in 1993 and 2003 over NPT). In the case of nearly 10 years ago, it almost resulted in an Israeli-type air attack of the N. Korean nuke facility at Yongbyon.

i believe that israel in 1981 demonstrated how situations such as this one ought to be dealt with.

I'm not going to do what you ask anymore, and if you don't stop doing what we want, we'll bring on a world war.
Diplomatic geniuses, they ain't.

If North Korea declares war on the UN, and the UN surrenders, does North Korea get the UN building.

NK is now the front runner for a saturation nuclear bombardment campaign.
Millions may die but they are going to anyway when this maniac pushes the button on his missiles.
Better the Nk's die than our allies an Americans.

Time to ramp up the Pacific Front, too? Damn. I wasn't ready for a true World War (is anybody?), but if NK is that far gone...

Isn't the UN still technically in a state of war with N. Korea anyway? That Panmunjon thing is just a ceasefire, right? And UN member states are obliged to support the UN in any such conflict, which would now include the People's Republic of China (which was not a UN member in 1950-53). So what the hell are we talking about here?

You are correct, we are still officially in a state of war.
Notice that they visited Bill Richardson in New Mexico, because our two countries do not have diplomatic rations?
If they want a nuclear war, can we specify a date and time?
My only request is that we get live coverage from cable news and I can get my popcorn ready.

The jackasses in the North Korean foreign ministry, (who have to clear everything with Kim Jong il) certainly have forgotten and look mighty foolish as you point out.
At any rate, since all decisions are approved by Kim Jong il, the Ambassador's statement in New York City is as if it came directly from the dictators mouth.
If this actually did get serious (it's still a lot of bluff as nasty as it sounds) we will know something is "up" if American non essential civilians (thousands of businesspeople, students, missionaries and their families) in Seoul, S. Korea and elsewhere in the area are urged to pack a 'bug out' kit by the door or otherwise get ready for shuttle flights out of South Korea.
