Fill me in as I am puzzled, if you have time. I'm stunned that you are asking this question after reading the book. Most of the high-end development in the West is now based upon such absentee ownership.

You didn't ask me Waspman, but that hasn't stopped me yet..:<). Klamath has a college. Also has lots of "recreation/tourist" possibilities. Also has an airforce base and has lots of Government jobs. A couple days ago I read an article that the last sawmill in Libby, MT. was shutting down, unemploying 300 people. 100 new jobs are being offered by the government...forest service, etc. Unfortunately none of the layed off employees qualify because they are not hispanic....new rules for the forest service etc. to hire more latino's or at least bilingual...we indigenous peoples...white, English speaking are just out of luck. In Klamath there is a new housing project of 2000 homes...they have no problem providing water for that. Marsh, as usual, is right.

"I'm stunned that you are asking this question after reading the book."I asked the question in the context of existing public policy and her esteemed position in being able to make it.
I was stunned that someone in that position in a desperately economically depressed region since all resource and ag industries are under seige with only government, tourism and little else to support her economy was griping about one of the leading economic indicators (new housing starts) with all it's ripple and trickle down effects!!!
IMHO, Your classic work "Natural Process," must become the next wave of public policy in this State and Nation!!!
Besides, I wasn't totally certain she had read it through yet. I'm still a recovering "shallow politician" and you must be patient with me... God's not finished with me yet!!!

Besides, I wasn't totally certain she had read it through yet. Nope. She hasn't read it (and won't).

Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's AssociationsA reminder to Freepers that this is not a "fishing friendly" industry organization as it purports to be but a group of San Francisco green lawyers.
If they had their way fishing would be banned on the west coast.
