Libya Names U.S. Beauty Contestant as Consul (Great Pics)

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Libya, which has been trying to thaw relations with Washington, has given a U.S. beauty contestant citizenship and named her as honorary consul to the United States. The Libyan news agency Jana said Tuesday Libya had named Tecca Zendik, a U.S. citizen who lives in the United States, to the post at an official ceremony in Tripoli Sunday at which she was also granted citizenship and a Libyan passport.

"Libya was convinced Zendik would play an effective role in the service of relations with the United States," it quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying at the ceremony.

Libya under Muammar Gaddafi remains on the U.S. list of states that sponsor terrorism and rapprochement has proved elusive despite its improving relations with Britain and other European countries.

Zendik went to Tripoli in November as the U.S. contestant in a beauty pageant, Miss Net World, whose winner -- British model Lucy Layton -- was chosen by votes via the Internet.

At Sunday's ceremony Zendik pledged to work for peace, telling Libyan officials that she and many Americans oppose wars and yearn for friendly links with other peoples, Jana said.

The good Colonel Ghadafi best watch it. Cavorting with all those imodestly dressed females, none of them part of his immmediate family. For Shame. The Mullahs will get him if doesn't watch out.

Looks like a friendly "world music" star. Like Salif Keita or something.

Actually in #5 I think he looks like Spock, a very old and wrinkled Spock.

I notice he hasn't used his arm much since a Tomahawk came through his bedroom window a few years back...

It wasn't a Thomahawk, but some kind of precision guided bomb, dropped by an F-111. Unfortunately the Lion of the Dessert wasn't in his bedroom, rather he was outside sleeping in his tent, which we neglected to target.

The worst atrocity ever committed on American soil and this bimbo is talking "peace." As though that weren't bad enough, she's doing it on behalf of one of the terrorist co-conspirators.

>>Ronnie knew how to handle terrorists...

Amazing the effectiveness of a good kick upside the head, instead of appeasement.

He has been working pretty hard to suck up to us for years. While the rest of the arab world defames us, he hangs big banners depicting the face of our president as a hero on public buildings.

I know it is wise to be cautious about normalizing relations, but maybe we should go easy on old Mohammar.

After all, if it doesn't do him any good to repent of his old ways, why should he? Just like we need to make those who attack us suffer, we need to work to make things good for our friends.

He's gone to great lengths to be a very good boy for --- what? --- 10+ years now? No, longer than that?

I think it could be a good thing for other arab leaders to see that there are rewards for jumping off of the jihad/terror bandwagon.

The TV show "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" had an episode where they took the neck rings off of one of these women. Wearing the rings pulls a women's rib cage up, it doesn't make the neck bones longer. This had never been done before, they thought that her neck could break without the support of the rings. She suffered no ill effects from removing them. She had bruising under the place where she wore the rings. The doctors said that her neck would return to normal without the rings, but she said it it was painful and wanted the rings back on.

The ministry described Zendik as "a beautiful bird of peace that came from the United States to ensure that relations between the Libyan and American people are embedded in the roots of history.

A 23-year-old Zendik, has thanked the Libyan government for granting her citizenship and said she hopes to influence people from around the world to love Libyans.

RAF Lakenheath, F-111F, 493 TFS. Lost a Friend, Capt. Fernando Ribas, partially due to the frogs denying overflight. Turned a 3-hour mission into a 12-hour ordeal.

We nailed his Gazebo also, he wasn’t home.
