Liberals/leftists aren't harsh? Why are only conservatives "harsh"?

"This isn't just about taxes, or social programs, or prescription drugs, or the Iraq war. It is an attempt to take over the American mind."

Liberals always accuse conservatives of what they themselves are guilty of. The stormtroopers of the left have engaged in mass mind control methods for much longer than 50 years. Now there's a vibrant and more reality-based worldview that has risen since the '60s to challenge the leftist view of things, and it's slowly winning because of the superiority of its ideas, and also, again, because it is rooted in reality. I think it can safely be said that libertarianism is a philosophy of government, conservatism is a philosophy of life, and liberalism is a mental illness.

These people remind me of the Communists in Dr. Zhivago. (Wait, not in the obvious way!) Politics clouds their whole life -- love, joy, pain, fear -- it's all seen through the warped lens of politics. And the slogans are such a part of their vocabulary, that they actually start to believe them.

3) The Power of the Web: When the Web bubble burst, dotcom businesses went belly-up, but the Internet didn't go away. It's still here, and just as useful as ever. In 2002, activists took to the Web to mobilize in the largest numbers ever. Web sites like UnitedforPeace.org, VeteransforCommonSense.org and AntiWar.com all became resources and organizing centers for the peace movement, while WorkingForChange.com and True Majority.org helped connect people with their elected representatives. It took MoveOn.org mere days to collect more than 175,000 signatures and over $300,000 in donations to buy antiwar advertisements in national media outlets. MoveOn's success shows how much power is created when we connect like-minded people online - a power we've just begun to tap.

Yeah, they're organizing demonstrations and advertising campaigns that turn off mainstream American voters, while we're winning elections. If they consider that success, I'd hate to see what they consider failure. Oh, that's right, if something is failing, their solution is to do more of it.

As the Great One said: when they're out of power, they really get funny.

All that's missing is that great line from those indestructable communist party posters that used to cover college campii years ago: ...workers are chained to their machines while the drums of war beat ever louder.

TRIPLE BARF!!!

I wasnt' alive in the 60's, but somehow I get the impression that I'm living in the 60's.

I feel bad for those who lived during the 60's and are having to live through it all over again in the 2000's.

Leftist tactics and philosophies don't change do they? And liberals think they're so progressive and enlightened. Liberal views have been "progressive" for who knows how long. Since Cain killed Abel, probably.

As years go, they don't get much worse than 2002.

That is the whole premise of the article, and it is false. We saw growth in the economy and a slight drop in the market. Big deal... the guy is acting as if it were 1932, and the height of the depression.

Michael Moore is listed among the silver lining. Do these people even care what he's said recently? The left is getting worse...which I didn't think was possible.

If Michael Moore is their #2 Silver Lining, and Dennis Kucinich is their #2 elected politician Silver Lining, we have nothing to worry about.

They think 2003 will be worse than 2002? Here's another prediction for you: 2004 will be much worse.

There are so many facets to this guys' ignorance, self delusion, and ultra far left ideology, that I don't even know where to begin. I guess the simple fact that the great Bloviator, Michael Moore is one of his heroes says it all. Keep writing, Comerade, so we are constantly reminded of your socialist ideas.

Aside from more intense scrutiny at airports, the lives of the vast majority of Americans go on just as they did before 9/11. There has been no "assault on civil liberties" by the government. If there is any more "fear" than there was two years ago, it is because of 9/11, the anthrax scare, and the DC sniper scare. Need I point out that these events were not perpetrated by the Bush administration?

Wellstone was a role model whose integrity and conscience showed us what American politics could really be like.

And that would be pretty scary.

5) Big Brother on Steroids: You'd think people would have figured it out by now: Huge government bureaucracy simply doesn't work, no matter what the ideology behind it. But the current occupants of the White House are determined to repeat grievous errors of the past. During this past year, they have created gargantuan institutions whose size and powers are unprecedented in U.S. history.

Hmmmm.....but let's put a massive bureaucracy in charge of universal healthcare, gun registration etc.

Proves to me more and more how the left cares so little for anything beyond it's own rise and conquest of power. They simply cannot see things as rights or as correct unless it favors their own point of view.

It's very strange to me. The left claims to fight fascism yet champions making thoughts a crime(hate crimes, speech codes in Europe), pledges to ensure equality while making most of the populace directing dependent upon government, want severe restriction on citizen firearms possesion yet whispers about a need for revolution. They fear big government when wielded by those they disagree with yet they build the very government institutions that are ripe for abuse. I just don't understand that.
