I always assumed that gravity was an instantaneous thing.

This is nothing new, mothers have known this for years. Watch a child the next time they spill a bowl of spaghetti...time and gravity both slow down as the bowl falls to the (usually carpeted) floor. LOL

Also, the time it takes the bowl of spaghetti to hit the floor is directly proportional to the time it takes for the dog to arrive at the spill and clean it up and inversely proportional to the time it takes for mom to grab a towel and clean it up!

No joke. It's kind of like when you shut the locked car door just as you realize that the keys are still in the ignition. The door swings slower but you still can't quite grab it fast enough.

Time slows down for the Mother as the bowl falls. The child on the other hand experiences a dramatic speed up in time as the Mother suddenly begins to talk very fast and much louder (obviously a doppler effect).
