The ABC News Political Unit has been told that Retired General Wesley Clark plans to lunch [discussing Presidential ambitions up or down] with Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe today at the Army-Navy Club
(Sure, CNN/FOX/MSNBC you can stake it out.)
And said to be still mulling it over Senator Bob Graham of Florida is expected to swing by 'the Mack man's' office in the afternoon.
The Note has also head from several luminaries including several powerful Iowa labor activists, that Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio is on the verge of announcing his candidacy for President as well
Or that he is about to (or already has) set up an exploratory committee.
True, Kucinich has spokes with activists in 40 different cities, according to a senior member of his staff, who also says that his man hasn't decided whether-or when, if the weather is favorable-to announce.

Is he short?
Now that Daschle isn't running, ohioWFan pointed out that we're down to only six dwarfs.

After all, this is the chief flunky of Bill and Hitlery, with access to their money, and the FBI database.

Today Berkeley City Councilwoman and part-time lesbian activist Wanda Wantsaweener announced her candidacy for President. "What the Hell?", she said, "Who else is there? Edwards? What is he, four-foot-nine? Sarah Michelle Gellar is taller than him and she has a better butt. Kerry? He has the charisma of Walter Mondale gooned on NyQuil. Dick Gephardt is actually a space alien and everyone knows it. Sharpton? Probably makes Tawana Brawley his running mate. Dean? Please. And anyway, I'm planinng to sue anyone who doesn't vote for me. I'm sure I can get that classified as a hate crime. By the Ninth Circuit, anyway."

Bring him on...
His entrance into the fray will force a foreign policy / national security pre-Bush vs post-Bush debate that will not go well for Clark and the Democrats.
To: Howlin
Is that including Sharpton?

Clark for President??? How about Clark for director of JROTC at South Pass City? (For those of you east of the 100th meridian, that's a ghost town.)
To: TheBigB
Sounds like another VP Admiral Stockdale candidacy.. 'Who Am I-and Why Am I Here?'

"Clark for President???"Yeah -- a Clark-Clark RAT ticket. Wesley and Ramsey Clark.

OH MY GOD THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS. Hilary must've given him the go-ahead since she'll be waiting for the prime spot in 2008 or 2012.
Clark could EASILY play the "who's got the military background" game with Bush and win it. Recall Eisenhower's defeat of Truman during the Korean War. A general can pull off a wartime defeat of a sitting president, though I doubt a mere one-term veteran could.
Many mid-grade military officers with whom I am acquainted have not woken up to the reality of who this guy is! (I myself did not wake up until very recently, to my eternal embarassment!) Though I actually agree with some of his more controversial decisions, based on his entire record I absolutely do not trust this man.
If he were just a crazy war hawk who wanted to bomb everybody who sneezed at us I'd like him fine, but he is a political ideologue. This man is the reason I feel uncomfortable anytime I see a general these days -- I wonder what sort of pact they made to get stars in their shoulders during the last decade.
Does anybody know Clark's stand on fiscal policy? Because being a general usually insulates one from being called a pinko, he could push through major "reforms" (costing taxpayers billions and restraining economic growth for decades) if he decided too.
Having a Democratic, friend-of-Bill president would most likely corrupt the military. It might drive an unusual number of democrats into the officer corps and cause some now on the fence to lean left. Historically the officers are about 80% conservative (this is actually based on a poll I read, I'm not guessing). If this got knocked back to 60% or 50% the military will wind up being just as namby-pamby as the rest of our society.

Get a rope.

Just thought I should clarify one point about my message -- I didn't mean to suggest Democrats should not serve their country in the military. I only meant to suggest that given the CURRENT political stances of the Democratic Party, Republican domination of the military is probably a good thing.

The bottom line is that the liberal RAT base voters will never vote for a military man. They are still p*ssed that Gephardt voted for the Iraq resolution. Over at DU, they love Kerry and Dean. Clark has no chance to win the nomination.
