Note from a Non-FReeper FRiva Attendee!

SUBJECT: GRASSROOTS PREP WORKSHOP - FREEPERS / Free Republic Network, and Leadership Institute participants and staff / presenters - LI / ACU / GDI (= Matt Lewis, Chuck Muth, Nancy Bokscor)

Many thanks to those in the FREEPERS group who assisted me in gaining access to both the meeting and training at the first annual FREEPERS conference in Las Vegas, August 16-18, 2002. I saw the notice for your meeting in Chuck Muth's newsletter, checked out your web page, and went. It was one of the many great experiences of the past year for me (opportunity presented itself via Muth newsletters). I was impressed with the passion displayed by the FREEPERS, LI trainers, conference participants.

To those of you who were successful in your campaigns and causes for 2002, congratulations. For those who fell short on election results, feel proud you gave your best and contributed to the process. To the Leadership Institute staff, many thanks for the opportunity to attend your workshop and drink from the cup of enthusiasm you offer up for consumption to a thirsty crowd. (Hope the mail list is correct and complete!???)

My compliments to all of you (Freepers, LI, ACU, GDI) for your dedication to freedom and democracy. With you, I look forward to the "daschling" of extreme socialist liberal hopes for the next generation and beyond. Folks like you will produce results leading to enhancement of liberty, justice, and freedom for all Americans. Much hard work went into your 2002 conference and electioneering, and more will be required for similar results in 2004. The greater challenges and freedom's best days are yet to come. Thanks again, and best wishes for the New Year and outyears.

Regards,
Mark C. XXXXXXX
Las Vegas

PS: I have saved this note for months. Please note--I am not a lurker, just a rewarded reader of the Muth news, gratefl attendee of your conference, and a GDI, i.e., what my parents called a "Gosh darn" independent.

The 2002 FRiva Conference was one of many great success's for the FR and the FR Network in 2002! This year we are planning on taking the Activism Seminar nationwide with FRN affiliated chapters sponsoring the event in their local areas! The first chapter to take this project on will be Los Angeles in conjunction with Orange County and San Diego, sometime in March or April! If you're chapter is interested in holding the Activism 101 Seminar in your area, please contact me! We are working on Activism 201 right now and will be presenting that at our National Conference and Awards banquet this summer! Stay tuned!

It's a shame as much enthusiasm and attention can't be generated for another FR project that several FReepers donated their valuable time and resources to produce.

Are they going to be on display at CPAC for sale? We had a few as door prizes at our holiday party Dec. 28th.

I don't know. You'll have to ask BobJ or carlo3b. I'm not invovled with distribution or sale of the cookbook. Just flummoxed by the failure of the leadership at FRN to even acknowledge its existance.

Carlo and I have had many discussions about the cookbook. At first, he wanted to use it as a fundraiser for the Forum, but after several conversations with Jim, Jim made it clear, for legal and other reasons, he didn't want to do any fundrasiers for FR other than the quarterly FReepathon. I told Carlo that the FRN might be interested and asked him to send me a budget. Carlo said all he was interested in was covering expenses, etc. By that time, the personal expenses were several thousand and the initial printing of the book was several thousand. At a price of $20, and then throwing in S&H, we would have to sell 250-350 cookbooks to break even, plus, Jim was still reluctant to allow a full blown fundraiser of any kind, even if for the FRN, on the Forum. The FRN board was nervous about this and the overhead since we were currently planning the FRiva and another cruise and we operate on a very tight budget. I indicated to Carlo that I was still interested in helping out, if on a personal basis. The next thing I knew, the cookbooks were up, so I assumed Carlo decided to do it on his own and was going to donate the profits to Jim and FR on the next FReepathon, which was okay.

If Carlo and the cookbook committee would still want FRN involvement, I can take another stab at asking Jim to allow a full on fundraiser on the Forum. As I'm sure you are aware, this is the only way to insure a successful launch and getting into the black.

We'd be happy to sell the cookbook at the CPAC booth. Contact Diotima, who heads up the CPAC booth committee this year.

EXCELLENT! I think the Florida chapter is also looking at dates and we'd like to get a venue in Texas (Houston out there?). That would be pretty good coverage, west, southeast, east and midwest. When do you think would be a good time?

BTW - We'd want to arrange the dates around FRiva 2003, which will probably be in the late summer as last year. I'm thinking LA for Spring, then early summer (June?), FRiva in late summer, fall (Sept?) and winter (Nov-early Dec).

The reason this Mark guy is so happy is because it was I that greeted him at the door.
