In 'The shadow of the star' the 'anti-Zionistic' artist Peter Edel claims that Judaism is a racist religion and that the 'Jewish elite' is co-responisble for the Holocaust. Writer and Socialistic Party member Karel Glastra van Loon wrote an recommending introduction. The 'painfull facts' must be faced.
Karel Glastra van Loon in the introduction from 'The schadow of the star': "You don't have to be a fortune-teller to predict that the author, Peter Edel, will be called an anti-Semite". But that is for him not a reason to recommend the book. It is a 'painfull', but 'optimistic', even an 'important' book.
The witer of succesfull romans like 'The passionfruit', gives advice to the campaignteam of the SP (Socialistic Party); he is known from the action 'Stop the wholesale of civilization' and wrote, together with Bob Kosko, the campaignsong 'Vote for! Vote SP! and the introduction of the book written by Edel.
'Fortune-telling gifts' were indeed not needed to suspect the book would provoce resistance. Edel already build a reputation with his outspoken views on the Holocaust, Judaism and Zionism. He ealrier wrote that rich Jews would have brought Hitler to power, that the Holocaust remembrance should be quitted, that Rabbi Evers is 'a follower of the Fourth Reich, and that the Centrum Information and Documentation Isreal is part of a worldwide Zionist network with dark, criminal branches. CIDI went to court to sue him for slander, but lost.
Another trail in court against Edels writings about Zionist complots was rejected by the court. Therefor Edel can almost unhindered promote his 'ideas' in leftists action-magazines like 'Ravage' and 'Kleintje Muurkrant'. Now Edel found a new platform, the Belgian extreme-left publisher Epo. Glastra van Loon is enthousiast about what he calls 'a typical post-modern author'.
Edel claims in his book that Zionists actively supported the nazis. 'Zionists' - called 'Jewish eltists' by him - are not only co-responsible the massmurder of millions of Jews, but they also made gains from this by using the antisemitism created by them as excuse for the founding of Israel. Also they even dared to ask for large sums of money for compensation.
'The shadow of the star' questions these 'zionist actions'. This is done by the author by showing an 'anti-Zionistic' history of the Jewish people. In the book the 'artist' portrays the Jew- and genocide-hobbyist Edel, by showing randomly selected examples, how racist, xenophobic, power-hungry and backwards the Jewish people are. Antisemitism is like xenophobia, and racial hatred a purely Jewish-Zionist invention. Judaism is in it's core a racist religion. Karel Glastra van Loon in his introduction: "The onl way to deal with the thought that Jewish people are viewed as subhuman, is by denouncing the opposite view that the Jewish people are different for any reason, special or even choosen by God."
Do SP members think that racism is being provoked by people who claim to be 'diffent'? Is denouncing other cultures and portraying of their own identity a stance of the SP? Member of the Second Chamber Harry van Bommel (third on the SP-list) wants to make one thing clear: "What Karel writes, are his personal feelings. But I always think it is interesting to read what he writes." (Karel van Bommel is co-organizer of the comittee 'Stop the occupation', together with Gretta Duisenberg, who is now also charged with antisemitism. They allowed al-Aqsa to do a fundraiser at their latest gathering).
"Glastra van Loon is not a party-ideologist", says Tiny Kox, public secretary of the SP. But he seems to be an important expert to the party in foreing politics. Together with Jan Marijnissen (SP leader) he wrote a book about the NATO-intervention in Kosovo. His ideas are also not unimportant to the SP, says Kox. "He thinks along in our election campaign team."
The thought that Jews caused the Holocaust themselves was for along time a favorite thought of neo-nazis. Now the left also believes this theory more and more in 'Zionist complots and conspiracies'. This year the Candian 'different-globalist' Naomi Klein wrote alarming about the increasing anti-Semitism in 'her movement', a movement where also Glastra van Loon and the SP are active. "Everytime I look at the newssites of activists from Indymedia.org that have an 'open publishing' policy, I am confronted with a large number of Jewish consiracy-theories about September 11 and fragments from 'The Protocols of the elders of Zion'."
"The shadow of the star is an anti-Semitic book", says journalist Peter Zegers, who investigates anti-Semitic conspiracy-theories and warns on the internet for the ideas of Edel (www.gebladerte.nl/g21.htm). "Under the cover of anti-Zionism the old anti-Semitic stereotypes are revived again", he says. The historic material used as a basis of Edel's book has been edited mostly to suit them. Some things are taken from the ideas of the American extreme-right multimillionaire Lyndon H. LaRouche or they are taken from sources like the 'Pamflet of the British Anti-Zionist Organization/Palestinian solidarity'.
But Edels most important sources are the self-critical (others call them 'self-hating' Jews like Norman Finkelstein and Israel Sharak. "A method that was also used for a long time by neo-nazis", says Zegers. "If a Jew himself says that the people and religion are immoral, than it must be true."
Zionism is racism, claim the anti-Zionists. According to Edel. According to Edel "the first forms of Zionism are already written down in the Old Testament". That Jews massacred Amalkiets centuries before the birth of Christ, is an example of 'radical Judaism' that amateur-historian Edel wants to fight. Already in the Middle Ages it was bad amongst the Jews, Edel claims. The Rabbi's preached "with the Talmud in the hand the supriority of the'Jewish race' and cutting off bodyparts was a favorite thing amongst Rabbi's." "A painfull book", says Glastra van Loon, "but also a positive book despite all this."
Glastra van Loon explains over the phone from Thailand why he thinks that 'The shadow of the star' is so 'positive'. "I was asked to look at the book and tell what I think of it. Then I thought: this is a remarkable book. It is in every way a controversial book, but there was a lot of things described I didn't know about. As an example the contacts between the Zionist organizations with the nazis and nazi-Germany. I think that was shocking."
Peter Edel in his book: "It is certainly not my intention to portray an as much as negative possible about Israel and Zionism. If that was my intention, that I could do with accentuating the in the name of ZIonism committed crimes against the Palestinian people." But there was already enough published about that, writes Edel. Therefor he accentuates the much older 'crimes' of Jews. Their biggest crime: making differences between Jews and non-Jews. Glastra van Loon: "The bottem line is, according the things brought forward by Edel and the anti-Zionists, is to introduce the humanist priciple of equality of all people amongst the Jews and Palestinians."
Glastra van Loon from Thailand: "At the foundation of the state of Israel is the idea that is in priciple racist, based on racial difference. A Zionist version of history refuses to face this fact."
According Van Bommel is his party not anti-Semitic. They want to stop the sanctions against Iraq and to impose sanctions on Israel, but the SP is in favor of a two-state solution'.
What the SP wants to against the 'racism' in Judaism seen by Glastra van Loon and Edel? Van Bommel: "Being different I see as a very positive thing. But everything has to be focussed on integration. It is unwanted that groups take a position against all others and who have thoughts that they are supirior to other groups."

I am disgusted by the stuff these people say. Another sad thing is that the SP is polled to be big in the January 22 elections, taking about 16-18 seats (they got 9 now).
