To: Snake65
Though I will admit what they did with Faramir made me grumpy. Because it is a film that spans only a few hours, it is hard to show the subtle progression of a character like Faramir. Tolkien did it over the span of two novels so you could see Faramir go from good to better. In a film you don't have that luxury - so when you introduce a character who must make such a progression you have to exaggerate his weaknesses so that by the end of the final film his journey will be obvious.
You will see a far different Faramir emerge in ROTK, mark my word.

I was worried about the Faramir changes before the movie, but it turns out I just love it. I think the actor does a fabulous job with his facial expressions. You can just see how he manipulates Frodo and how he is intrigued by the Hobbits, and gradually changes his mind about the ring.
I also love it because of the parallel scenes between FOTR and TTT:
Faramir trying to take the ring = Boromir trying to take the ring in FOTR
Faramir shooting the Ringwraith after he tries to take the ring = Aragorn defeating the Ringwraiths after they try to take the ring.
Faramir letting them go = Aragorn resisting the ring when challenged by Frodo
With these scenes, PJ shows us the evolution of Faramir from a Boromir type to Aragorn, from a flawed man to a soon-to-be superior man. And the parallel scenes will probably continue in ROTK.
In fact, I really enjoy noticing all the parallel scenes between FOTR and TTT. There are so many of them!

54. Arwen to Aragorn - when he says "This is a dream".
55. Theoden to Eowyn - upon return from the Warg attack and she comments on how few have returned.
57. Frodo to Faramir - when the Nazgul arrive at Osgiliath.
58. Aragorn to Haldir - upon arrival of the Elves to Helms Deep.
59. Theoden to himself - on the wall at Helms Deep when the Uruk-hais lead their first charge.

you were right the first time, it was spoken by Aragorn to Haldir. It was my first instinct. But on second thought, it seemed to me that it was Aragorn who should've thanked him, LOL!
Could 62 be Legolas to Aragorn instead of Aragorn to Legolas?

Thanks for the quizzes, mntgrl. It was a lot of fun. And I'm now ready to go back tonight for the 5th time, hehe: I'm still not convinced it wasn't Sam who said "The ring will not save Gondor. It only has the power to destroy."
Well, I have to come up with some kind of excuse, dontcha think? ;o)
