FBI Looking for Five Illegal Immigrants
The Associated Press
Sunday, December 29, 2002; 4:23 PM
WASHINGTON The FBI said Sunday it is looking for five men of Arab ancestry who may have entered the country illegally last week.
The agency said the five men are believed to have arrived in the United States on or before Christmas Eve.
The five men are: Abid Noraiz Ali, Iftikhar Khozmai Ali, Mustafa Khan Owasi, Adil Pervez and Akbar Jamal, all born between 1969 and 1983. The FBI warned that the names and birth dates may be false.
The FBI said it had no indication the men were linked to terrorist activities, but still wanted to question the five "based upon information developed in the course of ongoing investigations."
The FBI said it was working with the Customs, Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Transportation Security Agency to find the men.

'No profiling allowed in the tri-county metro area'
Yes, old Vera at work--when she's not talking about capping I-405, she's dreaming of attracting big-league baseball to Portland or working on schemes to alter the Burnside/Sandy/12th Avenue intersection, or ignoring a water-billing computer system that STILL doesn't work and is millions of dollars over budget...but don't you 'profile', especially when a suspected potential/actual terrorist has worked in your own mayoral office--at TWO different times. Oh, yeah: another Katz accomplishment--forcing your new police chief (Kroeker) who has come under fire for being (gasp) a Christian, to march in a gay-pride parade to prove his 'tolerance'.
If Porland wasn't so beautiful, and if the greatest bookstore in the world (Powell's) wasn't a mile away from my home, I'd be out of here.

And thank you for the link, Cindy. Glad to know ONE Portland news site is reporting this.

Something wicked this way comes.....
I only heard Ijaz give the opinion that these individuals were probably Pakistani and Persian -- not Arabs. Sounds like he gave a more in-depth interview after the story first broke. If they are "mules" then they carry. What? Anthrax. Smallpox. Information? Hope we find the bas***ds. This is a big country.

Last night's news report said they crossed over at the New York border. Would that be Niagara?
To: fivecatsandadog
I would think the border would be in the state of Maine--in other words, the Maine/Quebec border:
U.S. Border Patrol - Rangeley Station
P.O. Box 706 96 Main St.
Rangeley, Me. 04970

Behind the pictures of Pervez and Jamal shown in this post there's a piece of some sort of a yellow symbol. Does anybody know what it is?

I'd like to propose a theory that the men came in from Canada into Maine. It is extremely easy to cross the border undetected here. The FBI themselves say that Maine is an area to watch as far as terrorist traffic is concerned. Maine is just a hop and a skip from Boston and New York, and is just a few days drive to Florida or New Jersey.

Fox is reporting now that the FBI is calling these 5 as "suspected terrorists"..

This was just my thoughts, how in the hell did they get in here? If they now know they came across, why did they not stop them then? What did they do, say to them, OK GUYS, you now have a 10 min. headstart. This is just weird.
I mean they know who they are they have their pictures so quickly, how in the world did this happen? Did they see them cross over, what? Answers please someone. How many more will they let cross, then put out a bulletin.
This demands explanation from the gov.

SHUT THE DANG BORDER DOWN. NOW. LET THE CANADIANS DEAL WITH THEIR OWN SCUM.

Yes, I agree with you about Maine, Morrigan. That's what I was suggesting above (post 350).
To: annieokie
Yes, how come we never hear of a story such as: The INS has detained 3 men who were caught trying to enter the United States last evening, suspected of illegal activites. How come we never hear anything like this? You would think we could come up with some kind of system that would flag certain visitors and have them held until there intentions are verified. How come it is always: "3 men have entered the country and we have no *&^#$^$ clue where they are." The INS is a total disgrace to our great Country.

On the local Seattle news they interviewed someone that said that he rode on a bus out of Canada with one of the 5 and that the bus was stopped at the border and the person was pulled off.
Didn't hear that mentioned on FOX news this morning. Perhaps it wasn't the same guy?

Miss Marple, thought you might be interested in this
(MUSLIM) Man arrested at Paris airport I posted the following in reply to post 45 from the above thread, where the poster did a Who is search on the ALMUHAJIROUN.COM domain. I post it here to this thread because of the
Iftikhar Ali name connection.
Regarding #54 and the name Choudary, Anjem:
I thought the name Choudary sounded familiar as one of the names of the 3 student/doctors from the Florida 'hoax', so I went looking. Here are the results:
The three student/doctors were: # 122
Ayman A. Gheith, 27
Mohammed Kambiz Butt
Omer Chaudry
Choudary = Chaudry ???? While spelled differently, they 'could' be pronounced the same.
Also of interest is that one of the three student/doctors had a last name of Butt. In this article, about Iftikhar Ali (whose name is among the 5 the FBI are now looking for,Muslim guilty of inciting racial hatred, second paragraph from the end:
Irfan Butt, defending, said his client never intended to stir up racial hatred, stressing that the Islamic religion was "fundamentally a tolerant one and does not support violent action against any individuals".
From the article, Muslim cleric defies speech ban
Mr Chowdury told BBC Wales: "At the moment, we don't know where they (Al Muhajiroun) got the permission from.
And, from the article Bin Laden supporter banned from mosque
Mr Chowdhury told BBC Wales: "At the moment, we don't know where they (Al Muhajiroun ) got the permission from.
Same paragraph, but this article has a pic of Bakir.
Choudary
Chaudry
Chowdhury
All three names COULD be pronounced the same only spelled differently. Could they be the same, only slight changes to throw investigators off? Or related to one another. Just thought it was a 'coincidence' that Chaudry and Butt, to names from the Florida three, and Chowdhury and Butt wind up in the BBC articles. And then Choudary shows up on the 'Who is' for ALMUHAJIROUN.COM
