Not mutually exclusive events. Pulling out is a measure of contempt to DPRK if played that way, at the same time telling them to "shut it down OR ELSE..." is a good idea. The "OR ELSE..." does not bear contemplation, and they know it. As was undoubtably stated in other threads by others, i suspect that this is just saber rattling to distract us from Iraq anyway, as was the Yemmeni issue.

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way you will ever convince anyone that pulling these troops out was somehow a threat to NK. Sending in more troops might be considered a threat but retreat never will be.

To the best of my recollection, not his predictions (could be wrong on that, open to correction), rather regurgitation of DoD think tank predictions.

Political reality: You're right, ain't gonna happen in this crisis. Practical reality: We should have done it years ago. If played right practical could become political. We will see this argument again some other time.

IMHO, NK is desperate because it's failing as a government and does not know what to do to rectify the situation. That makes for great danger. Now is not the time. Let's pull out once they have disolved the NK government.

You could be right but never the less he went public in Newsweek and on the air with predictions of 50,000 dead. It brings into question his judgement on such matters. He served his country well and should be honored for that but he is not in the loop.

I trust Rumsfield, he is in the loop.

There's enough bombs and bombers (B-52 and B-2) in Deago garcia to turn North Korea into a great big pond.

You might want to consult a good atlas. The distance from Diego Garcia (in the central Indian Ocean) to North Korea (in the northwest Pacific) is over 4,500 miles, so better staging and basing locations are available. By comparison, Hawaii and Guam are closer, and Japan is practically next door at 500 miles.

They don't want a fight with us. The first move they make at the DMZ and that's their a$$. It'll take about 20 minutes for the bombers to arrive from the Indian Ocean.

Glad to know that it's all so easy. And that our bombers can fly so far so fast. But just in case, we won't throw out the old OPLAN just yet...

No, he's not in the formal loop, too many people still hate his guts for blowing the whistle on Vietnam in 71. you should note that Rummy is starting to sound like Hackworth with some of the publicised programs that he's cut (Crusader comes to mind). Hackworth is in commo with those who are in the loop, and anyone can predicate badly with bad info. My comments comes from Hackworth book HAZARDOUS DUTY,chapter on Persian Gulf war. Some things said about Stormin Norman RIGHT on target.

I used to like to read his articles but any more I can't stand his whining GUTTLESS words from his Sh*t Eating Grinning Face that you could see on Turkey Gobbler Row in Okie-Noc-Noc (Okinawa) that he has on each time during interviews with FOX and other channels.

NK will not be allowed to build a nuclear bomb. This plant that they are starting up will be rubble along with the lab that converts spent rods to weapons grade. It will just blow up and it'll be called an accident. Noone will have proof that a B2 did it because noone can track it. There's a reason we moved B2s to Deago Garcia within the past month.

Rummy and Hackworth could not possibly be further apart on the subject of North Korea at this point in time.

Time has passe dhim by. His opinions are overly informed by his experience in Vietnam with men like LBJ and McNamara selling us out.

He's entitled to his opinion but my opinion is that his track record since the Gulf War is not good.

Do you seriously think, not having the forces that we had for Persian Gulf I, that we really could fight two MRC's at the same time?? Get serious, we can't get people (even prior service) in the pipeline that fast. We couldn't do it in WWII either, MacAuthur had to do the impossible with nothing. Rummy botched that one (two MRC comment). It is my observation that Hackworth seems to have redeemed himself with latest book and coorelation to present crisis. i've read BLACKHAWK DOWN author criticisms...Hack did not make comment, rather cited RAMPARTS for source on Garrison overhead in chopper, again, bad info from generally reputable source. i have already stated that i do not wish to defend this guy, i have too many objections to some of his ideas (mainly that they are unconstitutional). He is however, more qualified than any of us to pontificate from the perspective of the guy on the ground.

He still thinks it's 1953.There is no way NK can resupply its troops in an attack.Stay the course and defend and conquer, push forward and never just hold your ground, always play to win with what you got and you will do just fine.

Pretty picture!! in fairness, how can the DPRK prevent airial refuling, those MiG 21's would be toast, and don't have the range anyway? Never the less, that is inspirational!

Here's what I think CDL. If the shit hits the fan on the DMZ in Korea, Iraq will become secondary.

The problem with Hackworth and your support of his analysis is that North Korea will become a seller of nukes to anybody with enough won to buy them.

Ignoring nuclear proliferation in the hands of whackjobs is not an option. NK can already reach Alaska, Hawaii and perhaps even the west coast. Who knows?

There's a reason for the initial deployment of missile defense in Alaska. It's because NK is a desperate country run by a whackjob.

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield knew it was only a matter of time before they reached for the plutonium that Clinton and Carter were only too happy to give them.

Just like the Vietcong couldn't do it in 54-75, right? i do agree that if DPRK forces slap leather, they are going to get hurt...whether two brigades of 2nd ID are there or not.
