Yes it was both of us. :o) You can click on our name here to read our profile. And thanks for your appreciation of our service. It was our honor.

I understand what Hackworth has said "in the past".. and we agreed with him "for the most part" IN THE PAST. It is his recent comments said very publicly on Cable TV, that are careless and reckless. He isn't the only person who cares about our troops, and in fact, considering the times and the situations, isn't even the most qualified to speak on them.

We need to back our troops up. Give them support.. not say how inept they are at handling the current situations. They are not!!

We both are sick to death of all the negativisms being bantied about regarding our readiness and effectiveness. Our troops have done an outstanding job. Our President, his administration, Sec. of Defense Rumsfield!! Dr. Rice!! They are all doing an awesome job.

Hackworth would have Jimmy Carter go to N. Korea to negotiate!!! He said this on Fox News!!

We strongly disagree.

Art served in Vietnam and S. Korea too. He sent troops to the Gulf.

We wholeheartedly disagree with bashing troops that are already committed in a conflict (We disagree with EVER bashing our troops, though we used to cry out for more fuel for the pilots and training excercises..and more excercise monies and equipment PERIOD!! We've never felt our troops were not experienced or good enough. Which is exactly what Hack said recently also!). Hackworth has said very publicly lately, that our troops are not prepared for Iraq or N. Korea. How does he explain the EXCELLENT job our troops have done for years at the DMZ? During the Gulf War? In Afghanistan? And a multitude of other places around the world? Where was all the "praise" for jobs well done? Though we lost one too many soldiers, the death rate has been phenominally low.

Hackworth appears to be backing off from those statements in the last two days. Art's dialogue was with him on Saturday. We both hope he realizes the damage he is doing when stating these ridiculous claims on a medium of communication broadcast to our enemies!!

This administration is making sure our troops are getting the training and equipment and PRACTICE they need. All troops start out raw. Until they've seen action. So did Hack.. so did Art.. and I had no experience until I had that experience. But I can promise you, we were all ready, willing and able to do our jobs. Same goes for our "quite able" troops today.

We are sick to death of the troops bashings..and negative comments about our military. The Adminstration we enjoy and are blessed with today.. in no way resembles the administration of the previous 8 years.

Our active duty personnel know this..and believe me.. they appreciate it. They love and respect our Commander in Chief, and his administration. They need our support.

Will you be countering any "PeaceNik Marches" when our troops march into war? Will you go to any "Support the Troops Rallies"?

We don't care what war hero it is.. if they are talking out against our troops, they are WRONG! If they don't realize the mess we were put into by the previous administration they would be wrong again, and EVEN more clueless if they don't realize "why" it took us almost two years to be ready to counter those who PUBLICLY state they wish to do us GRAVE harm. This administration has done an excellent job of getting our house in order. IOHO

Read the profile, impressed.

i cannot comment on Hackworth television interviews as i do not own a television and have not for nearly 20 years (quite happy about it thank you, i have read a great many books in that time, taught myself Greek, and Theology).

i quite agree that the present administration has been an improvement over the last one "the adults have come home".

Unfortunately, the legacy of the children remain. The money and assets for our armed forces has recently gotten into the pipe line. Please recall that Pres Bush XLIII has been in office less than two years. It took until FY 1983 for Pres Reagan's Budget increases to reach the troops, and give them what they needed. It took a few years after that for our troops to reach the profficiency that was required to do the job we saw on CNN (too bad it wasn't FOX). Having been there, you are both aware that adequate training does not happen over night. So, i seriously doubt that we are prepared to fight another conflict in Korea. This does not worry me because my contention all through this thread is that we do not need to put forces on the ground there, the ROK is quite capable of defending themselves on the ground. Instead, i have advocated that we pull our two brigades of 2nd Div out of Korea (along with the rest of the military there), and aside from air support, let the Koreans "take care of business" on their own. The benefits far outweigh the risks. There is no way that the DPRK is going to beat the south. Our 2/3 of a division is just a token rain drop in an ocean of the ROK.
As for those rent-a-mob-stalinist-pieces-of-sh!t that are in the colleges, see my earlier post (somewhere between 170-195).

Yes, Special Ops did do quite well. Since the passage of Nunn-Cohen ammendment to Goldwater-Nichols, Spec Ops have essentially become a fifth military branch and have their own funding independent of their parent services. Their standards have never slipped. Even so, as Hackworth pointed out, someone found a way to screw up the works. It has not happened since, and the Kids have everything they need to get the job done and get home.
If there is something wrong with the military that i have served in, and am presently paying for, i want to know so i can go to the right people and DEMAND that they get it fixed before i fire their sorry a$$ (they work for us, remember?). Our attitude should be "if Hack is correct, you had better fix this now, or we are going to hold you responsible when you send our kids into a situation that they are not trained adequately for and come back to us in body bags."

Since i don't believe that the nutcase in the north is going to do anything that he WILL regret (for a few seconds, if you get my drift), this is the perfect time to correct what ever problems Hackworth has named. In fact, let's call Hack's bluff: Put him in charge of the training of our troops, at least the troops will know the basics rules of infantry combat. After all, he does have a good record in that area. Why do we waste all of that knowlege (him and others i could name)?

Sorry FRiend. Can't agree with that statement at all!!! In fact, GOD FORBID!!!

While I admire your "not" having a tv, it would have been beneficial in regard to Hacks recent comments. His books are stellar.. but his RECENT remarks are reminiscent of a certain Benedict Arnold. He is behaving and talking extremely strange of late. Which is what provoked the exchange between he and my husband, and which makes us wish for him to slowly fade into the sunset.

Something has gone terribly wrong with his mind. Kind of like a Michael Jordan who didn't know how to go out while he was still on top.

See ya later.. God Bless, Vets

Maybe that head shot he took back in Korea. (Purple Heart #1). Ironically, he speaks of a Lieutenant in his Hardcore batallion in the Delta dying a few years later because of a head wound. i am going to go to the foxnews site to see if i can find a transcript of the interview. i know nothing in writing indicates that he's lost it.

"Now is not to show signs of weakness."

We agree 200 percent with you. IF there was ever a chance for a peaceful resolution it would only happen if we stand STRONG and UNITED. And, if we are to WIN when forced into a confrontation, we will only WIN when we stand UNITED and STRONG.

We totally agree with your sentiments.

When you go search, see if you can find his remarks made recently, regarding Jimmy Carter. Look at the "past" (recent past) pattern. His comments about the troops, etc. Even tonight, he stated we should just drop fliers on the Iraqi troops. (He has really lost it.. where has he been for the past 10 years regarding Inspections and sanctions on Iraq? It hasn't worked,..and if it hadn't been for this Administration.. the UN would STILL be doing NOTHING. IOHO)

He has really shocked us, as we both USED to admire him greatly. Sad to see and listen to actually.

Don't want to spam you guys on this, but if there is one thing Hackworth could do in a coma is teach infantry tactics and oversee training. Let's face it, infantry tactics have not changed much at all. It is at the tactical level that the army has had to adjust. We went from heavy armour formations in WWII to Light Infantry in Vietnam, to an encore of WWII tactics in Desert Storm (although most tank kills in that war were actually done by A-10s), to a Special Forces campaign that cuts off an enemy's retreat, while pounding him with steel from above (air, arty). The last was Hackworth's tactics in the delta with Hardcore. i would say that he is qualified to handle such matters. BTW, Benedict Arnold was a pretty good general. Had he not been SERIOUSLY mistreated by the original American "perfumed prince" (General Horatio Gates), his name would today be a synonym for hero instead of traitor. Hack never went that far, and managed to channel his still obvious anger into something constructive. Although he and Rummy appear to be far apart, Rummy seems to have taken some of Hack's attitude. i made a previous post on this subject. Can you send me a link to the interview, i can't seem to find it on the foxnews.com web site?

Sorry.. I don't have a link to any of his interviews. We just watched them first hand.. and any accounts we give to you were from seeing and hearing him say things firsthand (and with a great amount of astonishment in the beginning).

As to him being able to teach this generation, I would seriously doubt the ability of our Dad (85 and still quite robust)to fly a B-17 Bomber again. I would seriously doubt my ability to work in medicine again. Absence may make the heart grow fonder,.. and experience NORMALLY is a great tool for teaching, but only when ones memory is good. There comes a day when a person needs to step away from the Mic. I would say that day has come for Hack. Sorry.. but this is our personal observation. And, I might add.. the observation of quite a few who have witnessed his insanity of late. If you saw and heard the "Hack" of late,. you wouldn't recognize him from his autobiographies or books.

There are people talking about what we can and will do if pushed. Our enemies (yes, the AXIS of evil) are trying to strike us while they think we are weak. It will prove to be a HUGE mistake.

God Bless America...and God Bless our troops!!

Thanks for believing in both!!

Don't think you want to put the blame for what caused the present situation on Hack. He states in HAZARDOUS DUTY that he would have probably had "commo problems" had he been ordered not to get Saddam. Tom Clancy has pointed out that a picture perfect campaign would have simply ignored Kuwait, taken Bagdad, and waited for the Republican Guards to stack arms and go home. The real problem with Desert Rat I is now Secretary of State. Gen. Powell should have tried to reason with George XLI instead of simply saluting and saying "Will Do Sir". It is the job of the Joint Chiefs to be advisers to the President, so such a role would not have been out of line for him.

The UN problems was the failure of the Clinton Administration. They were too busy blowing up sand piles in Iraq (where nothing else was), and Asprin factories in the Sudan,(all to distract from Monica), while the real bad guys were left alone (or pardoned).

What is the harm in dropping leaflets on the Iraqui troops? If you recall correctly those guys were surrendering to Newsmen and camermen last time. Maybe they'll just be persuaded to call it a day without getting themselves hurt. They do remember the last time they messed with us you know. We don't have a quarrel with the Iraqui people, at least not yet.

As per Jimmy Carter, who cares, he doesn't speak for the Administration? As far as i care we could send Peewee Herman as long as it buys us time, which is the name of that game anyway. This has also been addressed in the first 100 posts on this thread.

Hackworth advocated getting out of Korea back in 94, and i think that is sound advice, it makes the liberals happy, it makes the America First people happy, it makes the Taxpayer happy, it makes a whole lot of married personell in Korea happy, and it really doesn't affect our deterrance one bit.

My step-father now dying, went ashore with the first wave at Normandy (Big Red One). i agree, he is beyond teaching. None the less, this is a glaring weakness in our Military structure. Why can't men like Gen. Hal Moore, or Gen. Hank Emerson, or Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf (both Jr. and Sr. when he was alive),be used so that the establishment never forgets the lessons that the men of the past generations paid for in blood? Hack relates a story of his visit to Korea when he went back in 94. He is interviewing Sr. Generals of the ROK army, and they ask him to lecture the Korean troops about the Korean War, because THERE WAS NO ONE LEFT WHO FOUGHT IN THE WAR. It took Hack about a minute to realise that indeed, it had been 40 years. i keep wondering how fast Desert Storm would have ended if Creighton Abrams (37th armoured batallion, 3rd army, battle of the bulge, WWII) had been in command instead of Schwarzkoph.

Our people -- the Second Infantry Division and Seventh Air Force -- would be the targets for those one or two nukes.

Oh is this something new now? Are they not targets either way? You don't think they are the first to be attacked when north Korea looses its mind?

WOW.. Thank you so much for sharing that your son is in Kuwait!!! He is in our prayers, and we will want to know his situation, k? Please, by private mail or just by saying he is fine, let us know how he is. I imagine I'm not the only Vet who wants to know how he is doing. Of course we don't want you to share deployement information or anything like that. Just things like, "We heard from him, he is safe, and he is strong". You know.. the Mom and Dad kind of stuff.

PLEASE tell your son that MILLIONS of Americans talk EVERY day about our Military. We are praying for their safety and we THANK them for their service!!!

God Bless HIM.. and God Bless you!!! This has got to be your most proud moment, yet a frightening one also. Every parent of every Soldier feels that way. We feel it with you as a greatful nation, as fellow Vets.

We will be doing all we can to "Support Our Troops" again in this war. We made sure we ORGANIZED and PARTICIPATED in Rallies during Desert Storm. God willing I will try to do likewise during this one.

I'm honored to meet the parent of one of our FINEST!!!

Now I look forward to the day your son is home safe, after a hugely successful tour!! After making the WORLD safer, Americans SAFER!!

God Bless him, God Bless all our "very able" troops, and God Bless the President and his administration.

FRegards, Vets

Hackworth gives us his full reputed resume constantly. I've read it ad nauseam.

Real combat soldiers are understated.

I'd bet Hackworth was a ticket puncher.

Ticket Punchers don't give a s#!t.

Lots of people brag, Bo Gritz for example, does not make their achievements any less. It ain't braggin if you can do (or have done) it.
