Birth of a small girl obtained by cloning, according to the sect of the raéliens

Friday December 27, 2002 - 1h49 GMT

MIAMI (the United States), 26 déc (AFP) - the scientist Frenchwoman and member of the sect of the raéliens Brigitte Boisselier affirmed Thursday evening with the AFP to have put at the world a baby obtained by the technique of the cloning.

The baby, a small girl, came in the world "today" (Thursday) by Caesarean. "Ca they passed very well", was restricted to affirm Mrs. Boisselier, president of the company of human cloning Clonaid, joined by telephone in Miami (Florida, south-east of the United States).

The effort of the raéliens to put at the world the first cloné baby having been realized in the greatest secrecy, it was not possible, in the absence of a scientific publication in the code of practice, to obtain for the moment an unspecified independent scientific confirmation that the baby was well a clone.

Questioned on the circumstances of this birth, it scientific Frenchwoman refused to give further information immediately more, in particular the birthplace.

"I prefer not in saying more for the moment", has it says, by adding that it would make a public presentation Friday in Florida.

It did not specify either if it would introduce the baby at this occasion.

November 27, Mrs. Boisselier had indicated to the AFP that this birth was awaited by an American couple.

If this birth were confirmed of independent scientific source, it would be about the first baby obtained by the discussed technique of the human cloning and whose birth will have been publicly announced.

I agree with you that enormous strides might be made in the sciences of the physical world.

The point of contention resides upon the spiritual domain.

This is an important discernment. For example it is far better to die physically ad the spirit enter heaven, than to have that which is incorpreal also perish but an extended physical life.

If you seek peer-reveiwed confiration, consider issues such as out-of-body experiences where serial numbers are read off the reverse side of lamps over operating tables by patients who are declared physically dead, but who are later revived. Something exists associated with what is described as a spiritual domain, yet is not understood on physical terms.

Scripture provides enormous volumes of guidance regarding these domains.

Even within Bible believing communities, there is a divergence of doctrine regarding the discernment of soul and spirit.

Those who discern spiritual things recognize situations exist where disembodied spirits have possessed and more often may influence the persons of humans, especially of unbelievers. The spirits are characterized as persons and are discernible from other persons.

The soul has also been associated with life breathed being. Some Christian doctrines asserts that all animals have soul and reasoning ability, but lack spirit. Some non Christian religions associate spirits with animals as well.

Most Christians agree that man is discernible from other animals in that we have the ability to commune with God, whereas, upon the animal's physical death, they are no more.

Accordingly, if we have a creature, created by man but lacking the ability to receive a God-given spirit, then upon their death they might not be equatable to humans in being able to commune with God. Worse, their bodies might be capable of hosting disembodied spirits, which have been known to man to include those of fallen angels or demons.

Interestingly, many of the same themes attributed to the doctrines of demons also match the doctrines espoused by Raelians. For this reason, the issues aren't moot.

Throughout the entire Bible, the word "soul" is always used to designate a single whole person, not some ephemeral "ghost" that inhabits a body.

How about that sword that separates and divides asunder soul from spirit?

One of their members was on Art Bell a while back. Sorry, can't provide a more exact timeframe. (Most shows are for "entertainment purposes only", or "buy my book".)

IIRC, the Rael rep was a tad bit aloof, talked in grand generalizations, etc.

Religious cult, appeal to feminism and the occult. See post #51 for an image from their website. Interestingly they show the Star of David, looks like they appeal to the Kaballah and other esoteric writings. Reads as though they appeal to a secretive cultic belief system.

I tend to be tricotomous, ...Are you dicotomous?... or do you believe a man-made human clone would posess both soul and spirit distinct from others in personality and still recognized by God as being human and whose sins have been atoned for by Christ?

The issues implied are really the domain of Frankenstein and commentaries of the like.

Horsespuckey! A publicity stunt to suck the media in for a story, and raise these religous kooks' recognition!

When the lab tests the DNA, all this whining will be in vain! Geezz, I can't believe you folks are falling for this con!

LOL!

...captive for "society's greater purpose?"

Can you say professional sports?

The guys that clean the locker rooms probably have freezers stuffed with all kinds of genetic material. The locker room attendants for the Washington Wizards and LA Lakers will be our next billionaires.

Look for the price of Marilyn Monroe's, Jane Mansfield's, Princess Grace's and Di's, etc. personal items to skyrocket.

Isn't some laboratory still studying Einstein's brain? How about some government (North Korea, China, Iraq, Iran) placing an order for 1,000 (evil) genii?

Might it be possible to clone one's self, and transfer one's brain's memory lobes to the new him or her, and essentially continue living through the cloned version? By transferring merely the memory lobes as opposed to the brainstem, paralysis hopefully wouldn't result. I've read in the past that memories can be transferred in this way, and since it's one's clone then I guess the risk of tissue rejection is greatly minimized. This all sounds feasible then, right? If so then I bet whichever biotech firm offers it (from a country where it can be offered) will make a bundle with the aging baby-boomers of the USA and Europe (etcetera). Folks not only seek immortality, they seek renewed youth.

Now let's up the ante a bit... Can the new "me" be genetically improved and still accept my brain's memory lobe tissues withOUT organ rejection's likely occurrence? Or would even that slight genetic modification (to make one smarter, or more phyiscally "ideal") greatly increase the risk of tissue rejection from the original human?

I'm watching the very beautiful foreign Doctor, cooing her way thru this press conference.

She is trying to justify this experiment, and I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

What have we done, Dear Lord?

When will we know the results of the DNA confirmation testing?

Here's a related thread, by the way...
