Birth of a small girl obtained by cloning, according to the sect of the raéliens

Friday December 27, 2002 - 1h49 GMT

MIAMI (the United States), 26 déc (AFP) - the scientist Frenchwoman and member of the sect of the raéliens Brigitte Boisselier affirmed Thursday evening with the AFP to have put at the world a baby obtained by the technique of the cloning.

The baby, a small girl, came in the world "today" (Thursday) by Caesarean. "Ca they passed very well", was restricted to affirm Mrs. Boisselier, president of the company of human cloning Clonaid, joined by telephone in Miami (Florida, south-east of the United States).

The effort of the raéliens to put at the world the first cloné baby having been realized in the greatest secrecy, it was not possible, in the absence of a scientific publication in the code of practice, to obtain for the moment an unspecified independent scientific confirmation that the baby was well a clone.

Questioned on the circumstances of this birth, it scientific Frenchwoman refused to give further information immediately more, in particular the birthplace.

"I prefer not in saying more for the moment", has it says, by adding that it would make a public presentation Friday in Florida.

It did not specify either if it would introduce the baby at this occasion.

November 27, Mrs. Boisselier had indicated to the AFP that this birth was awaited by an American couple.

If this birth were confirmed of independent scientific source, it would be about the first baby obtained by the discussed technique of the human cloning and whose birth will have been publicly announced.

Uh, people are falling for this story? Take a look at the woman making this claim. You can't say she exactly has a good head on her shoulders. Anything else she says would not be taken seriously, but when cloning comes up, it's "Oh my gosh how can this be happening!" This group that the scientist belongs to says that all humans are clones created by aliens 25,000 years ago. And yet when they come out and say they have a clone, just like that, people believe them? What credibility do they have? I don't buy it for one second.

Well, if you want something done without carrying the Public Relations burden, you get a group of nuts to claim it.
If it succeeds, you win. You now have the technology.
If it fails, you still win. Your hands are clean.
I guess that's where the "possibility" comes from. Who really did it, and who really funded it if it's true.

Why would anyone do this to their own child? Do they not understand the implications of a child having the exact same immune system as its parent? The whole purpose of sexual reproduction is precisely to scramble the genes from one generation to the next, so that disease organisms that evolve to be successful in the parent do not also kill the offspring. This woman has just given her many disease organisms (we all have millions of them inside us) a thirty-year head start on adapting to her kid's immune system. Whatever ultimately kills her will find no resistance in her child. That's just dumb.

That's complete BS. Not to defend cloning - I think cloning humans is abhorrent. But chromosomal crossing-over (recombination) has NOTHING to do with 'disease organisms' or their abilty to 'adapt.'

That does make sense, in reagrds to someone behind the scenes. Makes plenty of sense. But for them to some right out and say they have a successful human clone, I mean, cloning animals is tough enough, with plenty of mutants and deformities as a result of it, and then for FR to panic like it's G.W. Bush himself making the announcement is, frankly, bizarre to me. Then again, Freepers can be very reactionary. I've seen it before. Heck, I can be so myself.

I think that's the only way they could have pulled it off. They're kooks!

There's no reason why this child would not have a soul. he is nothing more (or less) than a twin sister of the DNA donor, born many years later. And of course, twins each have souls.

I think that's spelled Conehead.

No, a clone would be a twin. Twins, of course both have souls.

No, it has to do with whether or not a child's immune system is identical to that of its parent. In a clone, it is. The disease organisms are just doing their thing, trying to adapt to their host's immune system so they can be "successful." It can take a long time for that to happen, and sometimes it never does. But when it does, and some disease is about to kill you, how happy would you be knowing the kid in your house has the same immune system you do? The disease now knows how to kill your kid; it took thirty years to figure out how to kill you, but the kid is an instant mark. Were the child not a clone, its immune system would represent a whole new puzzle to adapt to.

And the soul is passed on through the parents. This kid has a peti dish as parents. That would make a synthetic soul? Glass or plastic for all eternity?

Secondly, even if the kid isn't an "The Anti-Christ", there'll always be people who look at her in that way. Or at the very least as some sort of freak.

Many of whom are, right here on FR, reading this thread.

It will be interesting to read the paper... If they bother to submit one to a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The only way to perfect this, or any technique, is to try it and learn from failures. How many people had to die before we figured out that porcine insulin ameloriated human diabetes? How many people died before we were able to dialize blood? How many women died giving birth before we figured out modern obstetrical techniques?

We've taken God's procreational gift and perverted it in just about every way possible.

Yes, God meant for those people to have STDs, and antibiotic and antiviral therapy is "(rebelling) against God's natural order," isn't it?

Human pride once again rebels against God's natural order.

I read something somewhere about "dominion over the earth..." Doesn't that include science? Oh, that's right, only Church-approved non-Galilean science...

Perhaps concerned about politics believes that one of a set of identical twins has no soul, or perhaps cap is ignorant as to how identical twins come to exist. Or perhaps cap has some theory about God waving a magic wand in that case to make it different than a clone, or somehow God plants two souls because He knows in advance that the blatocyst will split shortly after fertilization but for some reason he doesn't know to do this for someone whose DNA will be used for a clone.

Jesus was born in June/July. Phony romans moved it to Dec 25 after they got control of christanity.

Spare me your sophistry and your anti-Catholic bigotry: these morons believe Christ was born December 25, so they aimed for that date, and still fell short.

Issue is directed more at the noncorpreal spirit. Man might be able to master much of the body as in the DNA, but the spirit as created by God hasn't been addressed.

The Problem Is--WE DON'T KNOW!!

Exactly! Of course if people like you have their way, we never will know. Fear of the unknown is common among children and the ignorant, but you should know better.

Here, I'll put the light on for you. See! There is no bogey man under the genetic research bed.

...man became a living soul.

Exactly! Man didn't get a soul, he became one.

Throughout the entire Bible, the word "soul" is always used to designate a single whole person, not some ephemeral "ghost" that inhabits a body.

Once a human body is made alive, that is , has the "breath of life" it is a living soul.
