Birth of a small girl obtained by cloning, according to the sect of the raéliens

Friday December 27, 2002 - 1h49 GMT

MIAMI (the United States), 26 déc (AFP) - the scientist Frenchwoman and member of the sect of the raéliens Brigitte Boisselier affirmed Thursday evening with the AFP to have put at the world a baby obtained by the technique of the cloning.

The baby, a small girl, came in the world "today" (Thursday) by Caesarean. "Ca they passed very well", was restricted to affirm Mrs. Boisselier, president of the company of human cloning Clonaid, joined by telephone in Miami (Florida, south-east of the United States).

The effort of the raéliens to put at the world the first cloné baby having been realized in the greatest secrecy, it was not possible, in the absence of a scientific publication in the code of practice, to obtain for the moment an unspecified independent scientific confirmation that the baby was well a clone.

Questioned on the circumstances of this birth, it scientific Frenchwoman refused to give further information immediately more, in particular the birthplace.

"I prefer not in saying more for the moment", has it says, by adding that it would make a public presentation Friday in Florida.

It did not specify either if it would introduce the baby at this occasion.

November 27, Mrs. Boisselier had indicated to the AFP that this birth was awaited by an American couple.

If this birth were confirmed of independent scientific source, it would be about the first baby obtained by the discussed technique of the human cloning and whose birth will have been publicly announced.

Hmmm...born the day after Christmas...something of significance there but I don't know what.

The significance is that the kid is gonna get shafted on birthday presents.

Born without a human soul. Scary.

Huh? What train of thought lead to this statement?

does it have a soul or spirit?

No problem there. Yes, it does. But does it have rights, such as the right of inheritance? That's where the legal battles will be fought.

Biblical, otherwise, the idea of a soul wouldn't matter.

Wow! how is she?

Just like on the court. Lots of fun to look at, but she'll never win any awards.

For my money, give me Katarina Witt anytime. ROWR!

What about the soul of one who is a human clone? Do they even have a soul? According to the traducianist the soul is passed (or "led" as the greek would indicate) via the parents. What if there are no parents? What then? Does the soul come, somehow, from within the cell which is being cloned? What if there is no soul to be "passed on" in such a way? A soulless human being – "And The Lord God created man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into His nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul." A living soul… what about the cloned baby, made "out of the scientist’s Petrie dish"? Will the scientist breathe into her nostrils the breath of life? Is a human being with no soul a human being? Can this justify Man’s "raising" such "creatures" for the sake of organ harvesting, as I have heard proposed over the years through various pop-articles and resources?
What about the creationist? How would he feel about human cloning as it specifically relates to the soul of the one who is cloned? Will God create a soul for the human body which has been cloned? I sure hope so. What if He doesn’t? For the creationist the issue is one which is solely at God’s discretion, whether or not He will decide to create souls for human clones. For the traducianist it is still, of course, in God’s hands, but does it not seem that the means which they may consider to be God’s normal means for the "passing" of the soul has been tampered with by man’s scientific methodologies? If the traducianist model for the transference of the soul is valid then how will the human clone have a soul? Will God set up a special, new, method specifically for human clones? Again, will these human clones even have souls? If so, will we be able to evangelize these people or will scientists keep them controlled, corralled, and captive for "society’s greater purpose"?

"What horrors this technology will bring to humankind."

I am thankful I will likely not live long enough to see the long term effect of such horrific and immoral experimentation.

this reminds me of a scene in the old sci-fi flick Earth Above & Beyond.

In this particular episode one of the Clones soldier's was told by the marine chaplin before going into combat: "Are'nt you gonna make peace with your maker (before you may die)",

and the clone turned to him and said "why should I make peace with some nerd in a white lab coat?"

"Please state an authority for, "God-Given soul," as though the soul were something different from and separated from an individual living human being."

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)

OF interest also is the fact that when a female human is born, she is born with all of the eggs her ovaries will release in her lifetime.

I wonder what the human clone's eggs are like--are they the same genetically as the mother's, or have they mutated? The effects or latent defects of the cloning process could follow to future generations.

Nostridomus wrote something about cloning an army, although some who read it said it must have meant mass production of machines.
If Dolly grew to adulthood at an exceedingly fast rate, imagine how fast we could clone human killing machines that are expendable.Or scarier yet, another nation doing it.
IF this story is true, I'd like to know who funded it.

Reality is getting weirder than anything in the old science fiction movies; that's for sure.
