The uncle of six-year-old Nur Abu Tir choked her to death because he hates little girls and an inner voice commanded him to kill her, Majed Abu Tir told police over the last few days.

Police announced their findings Thursday, a week after they arrested Majed Abu Tir, 23, and three weeks after his niece first disappeared from her Umm Tuba village in East Jerusalem.

Majed Abu Tir invited Nur into his room - a few meters from her parents' house - on the Saturday she disappeared, then choked her to death and dumped her in a nearby drainage pit, where her corpse was found December 13.

The girl's uncle joined the hundreds of police and volunteers who searched for her after she went missing. He later told police he was afraid to come near the drainage pit lest he find her. He hasn't yet re-enacted the crime, fearing he'll be attacked when he gets to the village.

There has been a major feud, based on some sexual issue, between Nur Abu Tir's immediate family and her extended family, which includes her father's uncle. Some of the extended family members have been convicted of sexual crimes, and the police have been investigating a connection between the murder and the family feud.

Majed Abu Tir's remand was extended Thursday by fifteen days.

Nope.

If Islam is the cause of a crime, then it should be said. In this case, the guy is a psycho, so posting a 'Religion of Peace' alert is unnecessary.

While Islam admittedly has weird problems with women, if it was 'islam' that caused him to do it and made it socially acceptable to do it, then the guy wouldn't have to be afraid of going to the village. If everyone held his views they would cheer him and he would have nothing to fear. Clearly not all muslims would agree with his delusions or opinion of little girls, and would be angry over what he did, perhaps angry enough to kill him. The guy might even be an Arab Christian, or not be religious at all for all we know. whatever he is, he's nuts.
