Just personal opinion...I think it should be named the
USS Twin Towers.

I agree, naming a ship after New York is just another morale booster for the people of the city. Not that that is a bad thing, of course. I think it should be named the USS Shanksville, after the brave people who actually fought their hijackers/murderers. Seems fitting, a fighting ship to honor a fighting group of people.

I don't think anyone on that doomed airliner was actually from Shanksville. If I remember correctly, they were mostly from New York, New Jersey and California. The flight originated from Newark (NJ) International Airport.
Shankville is a nice place with great people but it's only claim to fame on Sept 11 was that a jetliner fell from the sky onto a farm there.
I know Todd Beamer lived in the little town of Cranbury New Jersey.
Regardless of the name of the ship, I hope it and its crew get the chance to open a big ole can of whoop a*s on the people who attacked us, those who are thinking of attacking us or those who are supporting our enemies.

Does the name of a ship have to have a "name". If not, I'd suggest the name "USS 9/11". This would encompass everyone who died and fought back that day - the innocent civilians, the firemen, policemen and those who fought back on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania (and those that died in the Pentagon).

The U.S. Army has a tugboat named ENDURING FREEDOM at Fort Eustis. It's hull number is 911.

LPD's are named after cities like the USS Denver. I don't see anything wrong with the USS New York City.

LPD-911, USS New York City sounds like a fine idea to me.
